The Character and History of the Fragrance

V Canto Astronomo is a niche unisex perfume in eau de parfum, or extrait, concentration, released in 2025.

The composition joined the Anime del Castello collection by the Italian brand V Canto, known for expressive fragrances with a rich, powerful presence and meticulous attention to detail.

The V Canto brand, also associated with the name Quinto Canto, was founded in 2015 through the creative partnership of perfume dynasty members Paolo and Tiziana Terenzi.

Astronomo continues this signature, combining the freshness of citrus, the green coolness of herbs and a deep woody-mossy base.

The result is a fragrance with character: energetic, composed and elegant enough for special occasions.

Notes and Development

At first, Astronomo smells cool and energetic: citrus nuances of grapefruit and lemon meet spicy cardamom, pink pepper and seaweed.

As it develops, the composition becomes greener and more aromatic, bringing lavender, rosemary, bay leaf and juniper to the fore.

Floral nuances of rose and sambac jasmine soften the herbal accord, while blackcurrant adds a touch of fruity expressiveness.

The drydown is built around cedar, ebony, elm and sandalwood. Oakmoss creates a dry, earthy depth, while musk and grey amber lend the trail softness and a warm, skin-like quality.

Thanks to this contrast, the fragrance gradually moves from a fresh, sparkling opening to a calm, noble and darker woody character.

Who Is Astronomo For?

Positioned as a unisex fragrance, it develops equally intriguingly on men's and women's skin.

It will appeal to those who enjoy fougère and woody compositions but are looking not for a classically austere formula, but for a more modern combination of citrus, greenery, marine nuances and moss.

Astronomo is especially suitable for spring, summer and early autumn, when its fresh top notes are at their most expressive.

During the day, it complements a business look and an active urban lifestyle, while in the evening it reveals a deeper woody side.

This is not a quiet “background fragrance”, but a noticeable, composed perfume with character, well suited to meetings, travel and occasions when you want to leave a polished impression.

Sillage and Application

V Canto Astronomo has moderate sillage: the composition can be noticed around the wearer but does not try to fill the entire space.

On skin, it is best applied sparingly — a few sprays to the neck, wrists or behind the ears are enough to let the extrait unfold gradually.

For clothing, 1–2 sprays are ideal, especially if the fabric holds woody and musky notes well.

The extrait concentration makes the scent denser and longer-lasting, so the dosage should be increased with caution.

Applying it to moisturised skin will help the fragrance develop more smoothly, while spraying from a short distance will preserve the composition’s natural volume.

Perfumer and Similar Fragrances

Astronomo was created by Paolo Terenzi and Tiziana Terenzi.

Their approach is evident in the layered structure: the fresh opening does not disappear instantly, but gradually gives way to a green heart and an expressive woody base.

If you would like to explore fragrances with a similar mood, take a look at Roja Parfums Elysium Parfum Cologne.

It may also appeal to fans of fresh, energetic and elegant scents, although Astronomo stands out with greater mossy, spicy and woody depth.

Fragrance Notes Pyramid

The top notes of V Canto Astronomo unfold with cardamom, grapefruit, lemon, rose and seaweed; a fresh citrus accord with a cool green nuance is especially prominent here.

The heart of the composition brings together blackcurrant, grey amber, sambac jasmine, juniper, bay leaf, lavender, pink pepper and rosemary.

This stage combines fruity juiciness, spicy greenery and a light floral softness.

Cedar, ebony, elm, oakmoss, sandalwood and musk remain in the base, creating a dry woody-mossy trail.

The complete list of notes highlights the fragrance’s fougère-woody character and its gradual transition from freshness to warm depth.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

I tried a fragrance from this brand that was new to me, and lately I've been liking the brand more and more. Astronomo immediately gives marine freshness, juniper, green shrubbery and woody notes. There's a little berry softness. I don't associate it with space, but if you don't get hung up on the name, the fragrance is wonderful. Longevity also pleased me: the fresh notes last for several hours, while the marine character remains almost all day. Unisex, best for spring and summer
