South Korea is no longer just a trendsetter in the beauty industry—it is now making a bold statement in niche perfumery as well. The brand nown unown was born in 2025 with a daring mission: to explore the boundaries between the known and the unknown. The name itself—a play on 'known' and 'unknown'—hints that each fragrance becomes a key to a new, unexpected experience. At the core of its philosophy lies the Korean aesthetic of minimalism, where what matters is not just the composition, but the emotion it evokes. There are no random notes here—only a refined harmony that makes you pause and listen to yourself.
To create their first collection, the brand's founders invited a master whose name has become synonymous with avant-garde perfumery—Mark Buxton. This legendary nose, who gave the world iconic fragrances from Comme des Garçons and Givenchy, is known for his ability to combine the uncombinable: cold aldehydes with warm woody accents, aquatic notes with spicy spices. In collaboration with nown unown, Buxton created six unique works where his signature style—transparent yet deep, bold yet elegant—shone in new colors. Each fragrance is a dialogue between West and East, technology and nature.
The brand's debut line consists of six fragrances, each revealing a different facet of the 'known unknown' world. Discover Apperance—sparkling like a first impression, with shimmering citrus and white flowers. Wet Forest transports you to a misty coniferous forest after rain: patchouli, moss, and damp wood create an immersive effect. Innocent is a tender yet not naive transparency: milky sandalwood, musk, and a light fruity trail. Zen is a minimalist meditation on green tea and white cedar. Dreams—airy yet dense, with iris, amber, and whipped cream. And finally, Bloom—a juicy, joyful chord of peony, rose, and freshly cut grass. Each composition lasts 4 to 6 hours on the skin, leaving a warm, delicate trail.
In an oversaturated world of perfumery, it's hard to surprise. But nown unown bets on intellectual pleasure: it's not just a 'pleasant smell,' but a story you want to unravel again and again. The bottles—strict, matte, with minimalist typography—reflect Korea's love for clean lines. And most importantly, Mark Buxton's work guarantees that you are not facing yet another clone of popular bestsellers, but an authorial statement. Already, girls in Seoul and Paris are discussing which fragrance is best for mornings and which for evening dates. Join the conversation: write comments, share your impressions, and discover your very own 'known unknown' nown unown.
