Jean Luca Perris is not just a perfumer in the classical sense, but a visionary who has managed to combine entrepreneurial acumen with a deep respect for the art of perfumery throughout his career. As creative director of Perris Monte Carlo and Houbigant, as well as executive director of the legendary Santa Maria Novella, he has dedicated himself to reviving and reinterpreting the great perfumery traditions.
His journey began in the business world, but perfumery became his true calling. Born into the family of Milanese entrepreneur Michele Perris, Gian Luca joined the family business, the Perris Group, in 1989. However, his ambitions extended beyond management. In 2011, together with his sister Elisabetta, he founded the niche brand Perris Monte Carlo, which instantly attracted the attention of connoisseurs with its honest and holistic approach.
The signature style of Perris and his brand is an ingredient-driven approach, where each composition centers on a single, magnificent raw material of the highest quality. Instead of complex abstract pyramids, he invites you to immerse yourself in the essence of the material. His fragrances are an ode to natural dew from Taif in Rose de Taif, sensual jasmine in Jasmin de Pays, and juicy bergamot in Bergamotto di Calabria. This philosophy is revealed in the brand's five lines, from Les Parfums de Grasse, dedicated to Grasse, to the intense extracts in the Extraits Collection.
Gian Luca's talent is not limited to his own creations. As art director of the historic Houbigant house, he carefully curates the heritage of one of the world's oldest perfume houses, creating modern interpretations of classics such as the exquisite Essence Rare 2018. And since 2020, as executive director of Santa Maria Novella, he has been guiding the development of the legendary Florentine pharmacy, preserving its authenticity for new generations of connoisseurs.
Under the leadership of Gian Luca Perris, fragrances are created that quickly become cult classics in the niche community. In addition to the aforementioned masterpieces, fans are crazy about the sunny explosion of Arancia di Sicilia, the seductive Cacao Azteque, and the delicate Rose de Mai. And Rose de Taif Extrait de Parfum is considered the benchmark for concentration and beauty.
Gian Luca Perris is a rare example of a leader who not only creates perfume but also builds an ecosystem of value around it. His contribution to the industry is the preservation of history, support for master perfumers such as Jean-Claude Ellena, and an uncompromising focus on the quality of raw materials. He reminds us that true luxury lies in authenticity, whether it's the vibrant Tubereuse Absolue or the velvety Vanille de Tahiti. His work inspires dialogue about fragrances, making him an incredibly important figure for the entire perfume community.
