Description of the composition

The composition of Use Black is shaped as a continuous scent journey, where notes flow smoothly and sequentially. The creative approach of Naso Di Raza is evident in the way notes appear and fade. No excess details, only what works, and the composition keeps a clear direction. Eau de parfum emphasizes the right density and pace of development.

When the structure is mixed the opening appears as one connected movement with a architectural woody mood: Animalistic notes, Jasmine, Leather accord, Oud, Patchouli, Pink pepper and Raspberry.

The deeper layers are read as a gradual shift without abrupt breaks, which preserves the scent identity through drydown.

The olfactory framework is shaped by these accords: Animalistic, Floral, Fruit and Wood without random overlap. Additional accords such as Leather and Spicy enrich the profile without taking over.

At olfactory-group level the profile is anchored in Animals, Whiteflower, Leather and Wood. It also reaches into Spicy, Fruit, Green and Gourmet.

The fragrance inspired by the color black evokes mixed feelings in me. Patrick Bodifée says it's «a color that creates a shadow of happiness», but I feel the shadow here is too oppressive. Use Black reminds me of other Naso di Raza fragrances, but not in a good way. The patchouli at the base sounds dark and animalistic, creating an atmosphere that is more depressing than joyful.

Earthy and velvety notes, emphasized by black pepper and sandalwood, don't save the situation. Sambac jasmine and oud add a certain heaviness, and the leather accord, which should have tied it all together, only reinforces the feeling of hopelessness. The incense-metallic note in the heart of the fragrance seems to just be there, not playing a significant role.

Despite the fact that the fragrance doesn't seem crude, it leaves a feeling of emptiness. It's something calm and balanced, but, alas, uninteresting. Lovers of warm and soft woody perfumes might like it, but for me, it didn't reveal anything new
