The fragrance is inspired by the works of the Portuguese apothecary Tomé Pires, particularly his book «Suma Oriental,» written after his journey through Southeast Asia in the 16th century. In this book, he shares knowledge about the culture, customs, and nature of those places. Pires described the Indian Ocean and its trade routes in detail, mentioning that sandalwood originates from Indonesia. <br><br>Suma Oriental can indeed be classified as an oriental fragrance. Its base consists of a patchouli accord, which can vary greatly: from cold and moldy to warm and chocolatey. In this fragrance, the patchouli is warm and dry, with a chocolatey nuance, enhanced by the addition of cocoa absolute and tonka beans. Although tonka beans have a slightly almond and coumarin aroma, which raises questions. <br><br>The woody note of patchouli is enriched with cypriol, giving the fragrance a smoky and slightly medicinal undertone. This decision might seem controversial, but the sweet-balsamic warmth of coumarin and vanilla balances this medicinal note. It's interesting, where is the sandalwood mentioned in the press release? It's hard to catch, as patchouli, cypriol, and tonka beans have a stronger scent. Sandalwood should have softened and smoothed the composition, making it lighter and airier. <br><br>Suma Oriental truly features contrasts: warm and cold, smooth and rough. These contrasts give the fragrance volume and dynamism. These are not gourmand patchoulis, nor are they gloomy gothic notes

The fragrance is indeed rich, with oriental notes and a strong emphasis on patchouli. Personally, it seems too heavy and harsh for me, the spices are overdone. But despite that, one cannot deny its quality and depth. It's definitely not for everyone, but there's something worthy about it ))))

The scent is just awful! Intoxicating, but not in a good way, more like it makes your head spin. Definitely not adding it to my collection, it just takes up space 😤
