Volatility of notes: why the fragrance changes on the skin

The Italian niche perfumery house Masque Milano was born in 2010 from the creative union of two visionaries: Alessandro Bruna, a brand management lecturer at the Polytechnic University of Milan, and his student Riccardo Tedeschi, who at that time was already consulting for the giant LVMH. Their joint project debuted with its first fragrances in 2012, presenting the world not just perfumery, but a whole theater of scents.
The brand's DNA is deeply rooted in Italian culture, drawing inspiration from opera art. The founders see opera as the perfect metaphor for their creations: each fragrance is a separate dramatic scene, and the collections are acts united by a common idea. Masque Milano perfume is a "second skin" or mask that is worn by someone who seeks an experience, not just a scent.
The house's portfolio was initially built as a three-act play. Today, these "acts" are harmoniously combined into the main Opera Collection. It includes fragrances about travel and discoveries (former Act I), about inner monologues and emotional turmoil (Act II), as well as about passion, love, and its dark side (Act III).
A special place is occupied by the collection Le Donne di Masque, created for the brand's tenth anniversary. These are exclusive reinterpretations of the very first, almost legendary fragrances Dolceacqua and Petra, released in limited edition and becoming objects of desire for collectors.
It is logical to start getting to know the world of Masque Milano with Russian Tea — an undeniable bestseller and award-winning fragrance. Its creator, Julien Rasquinet, skillfully combined smoky Lapsang Souchong tea with cool mint and citrus. No less famous is L'Attesa by Luca Maffei — a melancholic and luxurious symphony of iris and sparkling champagne.
Connoisseurs of complex stories note the tobacco-leather masterpiece Hemingway (homage to) by Bruno Jovanovic and the bold gourmand Times Square by Vanina Muracciole. A modern classic has already become the fairy-tale Lost Alice — a fantasy by Cécile Zarokian on the theme of "Alice in Wonderland" with carrot, pepper, and marshmallow.
The strength of Masque Milano lies in the constellation of talents invited to realize bold ideas. The house collaborates with first-rate stars: Delphine Thierry, who created the passionate Tango; Christian Maurice Carbonnel, author of the floral Romanza; and Caroline Dumur, who gifted the world the sensual Mandala. Each bottle is the result of a dialogue between the founders' vision and the perfumer's virtuoso skill.
In less than a decade and a half, Masque Milano has earned a reputation as one of the boldest and most respected niche houses. The brand is not afraid of complex themes and rare ingredients, turning each fragrance into an object of discussion and collecting. Its creations are renowned for exceptional longevity, multifaceted development, and an emotional trail, offering an alternative to mass-market formulas for those seeking depth, character, and true art in perfumery.
