Karin Chevalier is one of the most influential independent perfumers in contemporary France, a master whose journey from classical education to founding her own creative agency, Olfactive Design, inspires many in the industry. Her career is a story of how a deep knowledge of chemistry and luxury management can be harmoniously combined with boundless creative freedom.
The foundation of her craft was laid at the renowned ISIPCA school, after which, in 1995, Karine's talent was noticed at Haarmann & Reimer (now Symrise). Under the wing of a master such as Mark Buxton, she honed her art. Her desire to understand the industry from different angles led her to obtain a degree in luxury management and gain experience in the marketing department of the legendary house of Guerlain.
In 2005, armed with her unique knowledge, Karin decided to become an independent creator and founded the Olfactive Design studio. Her first and long-term partner was the niche brand Nez à Nez. It was for this brand that she created the iconic fragrances that won the hearts of connoisseurs: the playful Bouche Baie, the sensual Ambre à Sade, and the cozy Marron Chic. This collaboration set the tone for her career—bold, artistic, and independent.
The name Karine Chevalier has become synonymous with high-quality niche perfumery. She was invited to create fragrances that have become the calling cards of many brands. For Une Nuit Nomade, she embodied exoticism in Une Nuit à Bali Le Parfum and floral tenderness in Fleur des Fleurs. A landmark project was with the travel brand Gallivant, for which Karine created an entire olfactory map of the world: from bohemian Berlin and energetic Brooklyn to sunny Tel Aviv.
A special place in the perfumer's portfolio is occupied by her work on reviving historical brands. In 2020, she breathed new life into the Marcelle Dormoy archive house, presenting a trio of fragrances that received a storm of enthusiastic reviews. The fruity-floral Nacarat, the woody Heliodor, and the languid Gemma Veneris brilliantly demonstrated her ability to work with complex classic structures, making them modern and relevant.
Karin Chevalier's style is a masterful balance between artistic expression and impeccable technique. She skillfully creates atmospheric, evocative compositions, whether it's the gourmand masterpiece Mille et Une Figues or the poetic L'Hetre Reve. Her work for Maison Rebatchi and Le Cercle des Parfumeurs Createurs only confirms her status as one of the most sought-after and respected independent perfumers, whose fragrances continue to rank high in the ratings and hearts of fans around the world.
