Identity and Release History

Welcome to the world of Bond No. 9 New Haarlem, an eau de parfum released in 2003.

This fragrance instantly became iconic in niche perfumery, offering a unique blend of urban elegance and cozy warmth.

Named after a New York neighborhood, New Haarlem reflects the spirit of creativity and diversity that is so characteristic of the Big Apple.

As part of the Bond No. 9 lineup, this perfume continues the brand's tradition of dedicating each scent to a specific corner of New York, creating olfactory portraits of the city.

The release in 2003 marked an early success for the house, setting a high bar for subsequent creations.

Brand and Creator

Bond No. 9, founded in 2003 by beauty expert Laurie Matt, became the first American niche perfume house to passionately and meticulously dedicate itself to one city—New York.

The brand's name derives from the address of its first boutique, and each scent is an ode to a specific neighborhood or street, capturing their unique atmosphere.

Behind the creation of New Haarlem is the talented perfumer Maurice Roucel, known for his skill in crafting complex, emotional compositions.

His work on this fragrance brought depth and sophistication that make New Haarlem so memorable.

Fragrance Pyramid and Development

The pyramid of New Haarlem is an artful interweaving of notes, starting with a refreshing opening of bergamot, lavender, and green accords, creating an invigorating first impression.

As it develops, the heart of the fragrance reveals cedar and coffee, adding woody coolness and a rich gourmet accent.

In the base, amber, patchouli, tonka bean, and vanilla create a warm, enveloping foundation that lingers on the skin.

This fragrance belongs to the Eastern and Woody families, highlighting its oriental warmth and natural elegance.

The development is smooth, from the fresh opening to the cozy base, ideal for those who appreciate multi-layered compositions.

Positioning and Wearability

New Haarlem is a unisex fragrance suitable for both men and women, especially those seeking something unique and beyond gender stereotypes.

Its subtle sillage makes it ideal for close contact, creating an intimate aura that doesn't overwhelm others.

As an eau de parfum, New Haarlem has good longevity, typically lasting 6-8 hours, allowing you to enjoy it throughout the day or evening.

It is excellent for cool seasons—autumn and winter—and for evening outings or special occasions requiring elegance with a touch of mystery.

It is recommended to apply it to pulse points such as wrists and neck, so body heat helps unveil all facets of the fragrance.

Since dosage on skin and clothing is not specified by the manufacturer, you can start with 2-3 sprays and adjust as desired.

Similar Fragrances to Explore

If you enjoyed New Haarlem, you might also appreciate other fragrances with similar accents.

For example, By Kilian Intoxicated offers a coffee-spicy composition, while Eisenberg J'Ose Femme (2011) and Eisenberg J'Ose explore oriental and floral themes that can complement your collection.

Influence and Legacy

New Haarlem has had a significant influence on niche perfumery, popularizing the use of coffee notes in combination with vanilla and woody accords. For Bond No. 9, this fragrance became a symbol of innovation and refinement, solidifying the brand's reputation as a pioneer in creating urban, emotional perfumes.

The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

The scent reminds me of thick American pancakes with maple syrup. It's sweet, with a spicy hint and a bit sticky. There's something gourmand about it, but with an unexpected note of lavender. From the first sniff, there's confusion: what kind of miracle is this? But it's worth giving it time on the skin to understand its essence, because not everything is always clear at first 🤔

The fragrance opens with bright bergamot notes and the freshness of cedar, immediately grabbing attention. Then it smoothly transitions to deeper and more intriguing sandalwood accords. In the heart of the composition, coffee and vanilla are felt, creating a cozy sensation. Delicate hints of lavender and warm patchouli complete this perfume, giving it a special twist. This combination is truly impressive and leaves a pleasant aftertaste ))

The fragrance is really interesting, with oriental notes, dense and rich. The coffee here sounds surprisingly soft and beautiful. It's not sweet, rather tart and sometimes even a bit harsh. I think it will be great for men ☕

The perfume is really interesting, the coffee scent really stands out. It reminds me of some oriental sweets, but not too cloying, there's a slight bitterness… The fragrance can be called unisex. I wouldn't say it's only for women or men. If it suits you and you like it, it will look great on anyone. The longevity, unfortunately, isn't very high - only three hours on the skin. But it developed very well 🌟

This perfume is perfect for aromatherapy, that's for sure! 🎉 But wearing it on myself - not my thing. For me, it's too masculine and dry. There's a strong smell of strong black coffee without sugar, and that's not quite what I love 🍂 There are some woody notes in the background, but honestly, I can't quite catch them

This is clearly a fragrance that suits men more. To me, it smells of tobacco, burnt sugar, and lavender. Lavender together with tobacco create exactly that kind of atmosphere )
