Majda Bekkali Mon Nom Est Rouge
I really like the bottle design, it reminds me of a Japanese rock garden, but, in my opinion, this kind of presentation doesn't quite suit this fragrance. The only thing that unites them is the roundness of both the form and the scent, plus woody notes and a wooden cap. The top notes open on me fresh and sharp: pepper, cardamom, fir needles, resinousness, and something like wormwood. At first, the fragrance seems angular and bright, like many triangles changing shape in space, rather than round and warm... The comparison isn't the best, of course, but that's how I see it. Over time, the notes start to smooth out, a vanilla sweetness appears, and then something amazing happens: on me, this perfume in the drydown becomes similar to 'Gypsy Water' by Byredo... Yes, both fragrance pyramids have similar ingredients, but how did they end up smelling so alike on my skin?! The only difference is that 'My Name Is Red' opens more softly, not as tart and balsamic, but sweet-vanilla (without being cloying), more delicate. Byredo smells more resinous. So, a completely different start and a very similar finish. The fragrance is noble and worthy. For myself, I conclude that balsamic fragrances need a special approach 😔
