Volatility of notes: why the fragrance changes on the skin
You spritzed your favorite perfume in the morning, but by evening your skin smells like a different ...
Angela Campagna is an Italian independent perfumer whose creative journey began in the picturesque town of Silvi Marina on the Adriatic coast. Her story is one of true passion and dedication: before founding her own brand, she taught herself the intricacies of perfumery, experimenting with notes and fulfilling individual orders. This dedication to her craft laid the foundation for her unique approach to creating fragrances.
The turning point came in 2011, when Angela, together with her husband and partner Enrico Maraffino, opened her own perfume studio, Laboratorio Artigianale di Profumeria. In 2015, the world saw her debut collection, inspired by the atmosphere of the Italian village of Atri. It was then that fans of niche perfumery were introduced to the master's first, now iconic creations, which set the tone for all her future work. These include the fresh and airy Angela Ciampagna - Aer, the mysterious Angela Ciampagna - Nox, the exquisite Angela Ciampagna - Ducalis, and the floral masterpiece Angela Ciampagna - Rosarium.
Angela Ciampagna's signature style is a deep connection between fragrances and Italian culture, history, and nature. She doesn't just create perfumes, she tells whole stories. For example, the compositions Fauni and Ignes are dedicated to the ancient pagan ritual of Faugni. Her style often balances on the edge of contrasts: she masterfully combines earthy, almost primal accords with refined elegance, making her perfumes both complex and incredibly vibrant.
One of the perfumer's most talked-about works is the philosophical De Vita collection, released in 2018. It includes three powerful extracts that embody fundamental concepts: the joy of life in Laetitia, matter and transformation in Materia, and wonder in the mysterious Miracula. In addition to developing her own brand, Angela Ciampagna, the perfumer has gone international, creating the epic fragrance The Legend of Tomiris for the Kazakh niche house Aura of Kazakhstan in 2020.
In our community's ratings and discussions, not only her early works but also new creations such as Kanat and Hatria consistently receive high marks. Today, Angela Champaigne is a shining example of a modern independent perfumer who has managed to preserve the authenticity of handcrafted work and the spirit of craftsmanship, while gaining recognition from a discerning niche audience around the world. Her contribution to the industry is a reminder that at the heart of a great fragrance there is always a personal story, a cultural code, and a boundless love for one's craft.
