Floraïku Sleeping on the Roof: a dreamy awakening

Imagine yourself on a rooftop under a starry sky, breathing in the fresh night air — this is exactly the sensation evoked by the fragrance Sleeping on the Roof from the perfume house Floraïku.

Released in 2017, this unisex perfume is part of the Shadowing collection, which reflects the subtle shadows and light of Japanese aesthetics.

The founders of Floraïku, Clara and John Molloy, known from Memo Paris, created a brand inspired by their travels through Japan, and Sleeping on the Roof embodies this dreamy and contemplative philosophy.

Note pyramid: from freshness to sensuality

The composition begins with a delicate chord of Lily of the Valley, creating a refreshing and transparent start, reminiscent of dew on petals.

In the heart, Orange Blossom (fleur d'orange) adds warm, sunny, and slightly spicy notes, smoothly transitioning to the base.

Here, Amber and Musk create a long-lasting and sensual finish, enveloping the skin with a soft and cozy trail.

This evolution from floral freshness to amber-musk depth makes the fragrance multifaceted and suitable for various moods.

How to wear and dose it

As a unisex fragrance, Sleeping on the Roof is perfect for any gender and age, complementing both everyday and evening looks.

Its medium trail leaves a delicate trace that doesn't become tedious but attracts attention.

For optimal effect, I recommend from 1 to 2 sprays on the skin, for example on the wrists and neck, and enter the cloud when applying to clothing — this creates a light and even distribution.

In the form of perfume water, it offers balanced longevity, ideal for long wear.

Authorship and similar fragrances

This masterpiece was created by the talented perfumer Alienor Massenet, whose approach helped embody Japanese elegance in a bottle.

Sleeping on the Roof strengthens Floraïku's position as a niche brand that values quality and emotions.

The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. A week ago, I hosted a live broadcast on Instagram where I evaluated fragrances blindly. The first one up was Sleeping on the Roof, which I hadn't encountered before. I'm familiar with Floraïku fragrances, but honestly, almost none of them stuck with me. The brand adheres to a minimalistic approach, which is certainly interesting, but doesn't always leave a strong impression.

I wouldn't be surprised if creative director Clara Molloy asked perfumer Alienor Massenet to limit her compositions to seventeen components. This is, of course, a strange idea, but it has its charm. Floraïku fragrances are calm and subtle, and, yes, they don't immediately leave a lasting impression. But spend a little time with them, and they begin to unfold.

Sleeping on the Roof is indeed a beautiful white floral fragrance. You can catch notes of lily, gardenia, orange blossom, and ylang-ylang, which adds brightness and naturalness to the composition. But the main accent here is on lily of the valley. Usually, lily of the valley can seem soapy and too simple, but Massenet's work is impressive. Her lily of the valley is a delicate, light, and airy scent with a subtle sweetness that beautifully contrasts with green notes. No soapiness or old-fashionedness!

I would say this is a modern fragrance worth trying for anyone who loves flowers. Although it's not meant for cooling, its main advantage is its ability to freshen the atmosphere and make the air less stuffy. Overall, it's an excellent choice for everyday use!!!

Lily of the valley in perfumery usually isn't for me, but this fragrance simply captivated me. The tenderness of lily of the valley creates a spring atmosphere. You can feel that the work was done with great skill )

The fragrance is like a delicate floral cocktail, where the sweetness of orange intertwines with the cool freshness of lily of the valley. It's truly something very feminine and intriguing 🌸

The flowers here are somehow too sweet and cloying, and there's no freshness at all. The powderiness just adds to the heaviness, and the musk in the base seems too intrusive. In the end, the fragrance isn't light, but rather suffocating and irritating. I can't say it's pleasant 😒

This fragrance is just awful. No tenderness at all, just an intrusive musk that grates on the brain. Lilies of the valley? They're completely out of place here, and this powdery orange blossom just causes disgust. I can't even bring myself to call it feminine 😤

Lilies of the valley are beautiful, of course, but they are not simple at all. The scent of these sweet white petals is warm, with no hint of coolness, creating the feeling that these are some other flowers. But at some point, the familiar lily of the valley scent still appears. Getting acquainted with this composition left a pleasant impression, but also sadness at the same time!!
