Description of the composition

The composition of Tabac 28 Miami unfolds as a cohesive olfactory arc, where notes flow without rush and without gaps. The creative approach of Le Labo is recognizable in the way notes appear and fade. Nothing here feels random, and the composition keeps a clear direction. Eau de parfum sets the right density and pace of development.

When the pyramid is blended into one block the fragrance opens as a single chord with a noble cedar mood: Cardamom, Guaiac wood, Rum, Tobacco and White Cedar. In this format 5 notes sound as one voice, forming lasting warm resonance that keeps the opening compact and balanced.

The deeper layers are felt as a smooth transition from opening to trail, which keeps the fragrance coherent.

The stylistic positioning is unisex, which clarifies the composition character.

I encountered such a situation for the first time when studying Le Labo fragrances, and it's just ridiculous. Fragrances named after ingredients don't smell like them, and those without names, on the contrary, do. That's exactly what happened with Tabac 28. In the city exclusives collection, there's Gaiac 10, dedicated to Tokyo (a review of it is in the fourth part of the guide), but despite my love for guaiac wood, I couldn't detect its scent in that fragrance. And how pleasant it was to discover this unique, beautiful woody material in Tabac 28. It begins to manifest from the first seconds, filling the air with a floral-woody, moist freshness, leaving a slightly smoky trail in the depth of the fragrance, reaching the very bottom and dissolving among cedar flour - thin and slightly bitter. Frank Voelkl, in my opinion, created the best fragrances for Le Labo. Here, he colored guaiac in pink and creamy, emphasizing its balsamic notes, adding details and volume. Cool moisture also benefited the accord. Yes, the fragrance became a bit chilly, which is not entirely typical for woody-oriental compositions, but it can be called elegant, balanced, and radiant. The light sweetness of dried apples attracts attention, and the golden splash of clove spice and the calmness of vetiver, thickly powdered with cedar flour, create harmony. These elements don't just emphasize the main woody accord; they form it together, and guaiac looks very beautiful here. A little woody amber adds sharpness and contrasts that the composition lacks, and a little musk - for lightness. Miami could have been magnificent if it were brighter and more contrasting, if anything at all happened in it, but even as it is, it's quite beautiful. And what about the tobacco? I didn't find any

Tobacco, but not cigar tobacco, just disgusting. It's like someone poured an ashtray on themselves. Slightly less unpleasant than Jasmin et Cigarette by Etat Libre d'Orange, but still not great. The tobacco seems to be from the same source as all that nonsense. It doesn't even smell of jasmine, and I don't know if that's good or bad. The sillage is so-so, I don't feel it on myself after 3-4 hours, but colleagues who can't stand tobacco are just shocked until the end of the workday
