Perfume information

Description of the composition

The scent of Cedrat 37 Berlin evolves as an expressive line of development, where notes flow smoothly and sequentially. The style of Le Labo comes through in the way notes appear and fade. Nothing here feels random, and the structure feels complete all the way through. Eau de parfum emphasizes a balanced rhythm of unfolding.

The profile is unisex, which clarifies the composition character.

In a unified mixed pyramid the opening appears as one connected movement with a peppery-spicy mood: Ambergris, Cardamom, Cedrat, Ginger, Woody Accord and musk. In this case 6 notes act as one voice, forming piquant dynamism that keeps the opening compact and balanced.

The deeper layers are felt as a smooth transition from opening to trail, which gives the structure continuity.

From the group perspective the profile is anchored in Ambery, Spicy, Citrus and Wood. It also reaches into Musk. From a family perspective the fragrance belongs to Spicy and Wood.

Taken together Cedrat 37 Berlin sounds complete from start to finish — the start forms character, the middle layer carries the identity, and the base secures the trail. This is the type of composition best experienced through real development.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

To be honest, Le Labo didn't really grab me. Didn't impress me at all, apparently not my style. Though the notes pyramid seems all there, so maybe I'll give it another sniff next time. Maybe it'll open up differently. And by the way, ginger in the composition is always awesome

The 2021 “urban exclusive” release, dedicated to citron, raises many questions. Although the name “cedrat” might remind you of cedar, it actually translates to “citron,” and “citron” is simply “lemon” The scents of these fruits, though both citrus, are completely different. Citron has a bitter-sweet aroma, with woody and tart notes in its peel, while the pulp delights with a sweet, almost candy-like scent thanks to its high citral content. But, to be honest, none of this is entirely relevant in the context of Le Labo’s new fragrance. It doesn’t smell like citron; rather, it evokes nostalgia, reminding me of Cedrat 37, which is somewhat similar to Dior Homme Cologne and Allure Homme Sport Cologne. I had these fragrances in university, and back then they seemed interesting, even though I didn't know much about perfumery. But even now, they look better than many modern men's fragrances.

A question for Le Labo: why create this fragrance? Is it really better than the works of Jacques Polge and François Demachy? Unlikely. Yes, it’s more long-lasting and has better sillage, but its woody-ambery drydown isn't impressive, and the bright notes (citrus, spices, flowers, and a hint of ginger) disappear too quickly. Plus, its price is too high for this level of fragrance, and there are plenty of similar alternatives on the market. Is Cedrat worth your attention? No. Is it necessary for perfumery? Definitely not. And who might like it? Those who value image more than the scent itself. Le Labo remains a symbol of pure hipsterism, and that won't change :)
