Perfume information

Description of the composition

The olfactory structure of Benjoin 19 Moscow is shaped as a layered story, where accents shift without rush and without gaps. The signature of Le Labo is clear in the pacing of the notes and the overall aesthetic. No excess details, only what works, and the structure feels complete all the way through. Eau de parfum sets the depth and body this composition needs.

When the structure is mixed the notes arrive together with a warm incense mood: Ambergris, Benzoin, Cedar, Frankincense and musk.

The heart and base are read as a smooth transition from opening to trail, which preserves the scent identity through drydown.

The accord architecture rests on these accords: Balsamic, Gourmet, Musc and Wood forming a compact and readable structure. Background accords such as Amber expand the olfactory volume in the background. The gender direction is unisex, which sharpens how the fragrance is perceived. In wear duration Middle suggests confident staying power.

From the group perspective the structure relies on Ambery, Balsamic, Wood and Musk. The framework further includes Gourmet.

Taken together Benjoin 19 Moscow holds a coherent structure — the opening sets direction, the central phase adds depth, and the final phase leaves a stable imprint.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. The Benjoin 19 fragrance evokes mixed feelings in me. It tries to convey a moment described by Tolstoy in 'Anna Karenina', but, frankly, it doesn't quite succeed. The inspiration from Anna and Vronsky's meeting at the train station seems out of place when it comes to perfumery. Yes, it's a universal theme, but the fragrance doesn't convey the depth one would like to see.

The manufacturers, it seems, didn't quite understand how to tell the story properly. As a result, instead of a rich and multi-layered fragrance, we get something flat. In most cases, when it comes to Russia, fragrances are filled with references to the past, to imperial times, and this creates certain expectations. But Benjoin 19 doesn't meet these expectations.

The scent of benzoin, which should be sweet and resinous, is not felt here. Instead, we encounter something lighter and more transparent that evokes no emotions. If you're looking for a true Russian fragrance that would convey spirit and strength, it's better to pay attention to Caftan by Yves Saint Laurent. That's really something that can please. And if you want something more classic, then Ambre Russe Parfum d’Empire will be an excellent choice. Overall, Benjoin 19 leaves nothing but disappointment )
