Identity and Release History

The fragrance Balmain Ivoire is an eau de parfum released in 2012 under the aegis of the legendary house Balmain.

Founded in 1945 by couturier Pierre Balmain, this brand has become synonymous with Parisian elegance and strict chic, which is vividly reflected in its perfume creations.

Ivoire is part of the eponymous collection, emphasizing the integrity of the designer's vision and luxurious aesthetics.

Positioned as a feminine fragrance, it embodies sophistication and refinement, perfectly suited for connoisseurs of classic French perfumery.

Since its release, Balmain Ivoire has gained attention thanks to its harmonious balance between tradition and modernity, remaining a relevant choice for those seeking a fragrance with history and character.

Positioning and Wearability

Balmain Ivoire has a subtle trail, making it ideal for the office, dates, or daily outings – it is unobtrusive but memorable in its sophistication.

This fragrance is excellent for the spring-summer season, when one desires freshness and lightness, but it can also warm up on cool days thanks to warm base notes.

It is complimentary and recognizable, gently unfolding on the skin from bright opening chords to a delicate heart and a stable base.

Similar fragrances that fans of Balmain Ivoire might enjoy include Balenciaga Florabotanica, Chanel No. 19 Poudré, and Hermès Vetiver Tonka – each offering unique interpretations of floral and chypre motifs.

Creators and Influence

The creation of Balmain Ivoire involved two outstanding perfumers: Jacques Flori and Michel Almairac.

Their joint talent brought depth and complexity to the fragrance, characteristic of high perfumery art.

Jacques Flori is known for his attention to detail and love of natural components, while Michel Almairac is a master of modern composition, which allowed for a balanced and elegant bouquet to be created.

This release reinforced Balmain's reputation as a brand that not only follows fashion trends but also sets them in the world of fragrances.

Balmain Ivoire reflects the house's DNA – a pursuit of luxury, elegance, and timeless style, making it a significant contribution to perfumery heritage.

Description of the composition

The note pyramid of Balmain Ivoire starts with the top notes: galbanum adds green freshness and resinous depth, mandarin brings a bright citrus playfulness, and violet leaf imparts a subtle grassy note.

In the heart of the fragrance, a rich floral bouquet unfolds: iris offers powdery elegance, jasmine and rose add sweetness and romance, and ylang-ylang contributes exotic warmth.

The base notes anchor the composition: cedar and patchouli create woody stability and earthy charm, vanilla adds soft sweetness, and vetiver finishes everything with a cool, smoky note, ensuring longevity and depth.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

Iris in perfumery, strangely enough, is not boring at all. Aromo even wrote that it can be very diverse: from damp petals to something like boiled carrots and lipstick. Ivoire is a kind of take on retro: powdery iris, bitter galbanum, vetiver, and violet in soapy foam, plus an oily rose with a hint. A fragrance that definitely won't leave you indifferent, like bold makeup 😏

This is simply a gorgeous white rose with a slight creamy tint. The fragrance is delicate and very feminine, a true nude. It smells noble and beautiful, and the bottle is simply exquisite. A real delight! I have a small amount left that I'm saving, haven't used it much lately, just occasionally refresh my impressions 🌹

The model's back in the ad photo looks too unnatural, it's off-putting. It gives the impression that something strange is being promoted here. Sorry, but I couldn't resist commenting on the visual aspect. In the fragrance, I clearly detect notes of rose, iris, patchouli, and vanilla

The fragrance, though simple, has something harmonious and beautiful about it. It smells warm, with a slight hint of languor. A soft rose clearly stands out in the bouquet, seeming to set the tone. Patchouli adds warmth and intensity, while powdery vanilla gives it a certain sweetness. In the base, there's a light woody note, like something damp and mysterious. Longevity and sillage are impressive, but overall there's a feeling of sadness that such a beautiful fragrance might not be for everyone 😔

The fragrance reminded me of Eau d'ivoire 2012, but despite that, it still stands out with its harmony and thoughtfulness. A couple of times, maybe it was just my perception or how my skin reacted, but it unexpectedly revealed notes of Climat and galbanum on me

The chypre fragrance is certainly impressive with its beauty. Its complex sound makes you think. The first time I tried it, it seemed to smell like soap, and then suddenly a pure rose burst forth. Now I can't understand how that could have happened at all. Since then, the soap smell hasn't resurfaced! This chypre is truly unique, not like all the others. Using it in summer brings only joy. I just adore it

The chypre isn't the worst, of course, but that green opening... It's somehow too bright, unnatural. The smell of hay and mown grass? Yes, maybe cozy, but not in this weather. Autumn, rain, cold - this isn't the time for such fragrances. It seems like it's just out of place. I don't know, maybe someone likes it, but it didn't work for me
