Pheromone perfume: can fragrances increase attractiveness?

In the world of French perfumery, Carven holds a special place. It is a brand whose history is inextricably linked with the spirit of freedom, youth, and the post-war revival of Paris. Founded in 1945 (or by some accounts, in 1946) by the talented couturier Carmen de Tommaso, known as Madame Carven, the house from the very beginning was distinguished by a bold and modern approach. Its DNA is light, sunny elegance, a rejection of excessive ostentation in favor of joy and comfort.
Carven's perfumery chronicle began in 1946 with the release of the cult fragrance Ma Griffe, which translates as "My Stroke" or "My Claw". This floral-aldehyde bouquet, created by perfumer Jean Carles, became a sensation. Its packaging replicated Madame Carven's famous white-and-green striped dress. But the true legend was created by an unusual marketing stunt in 1954: in honor of the tenth anniversary of Paris's liberation, an airplane flew over the city, dropping hundreds of small parachutes with attached bottles of Ma Griffe. This gesture became a symbol of the triumph of life.
Another milestone was the fragrance Vetiver in 1957, which many experts consider the first in the world where vetiver played the leading role. Dedicated to Madame Carven's husband, it won such love that today its formula is preserved in the Osmothèque in Versailles among the greatest creations of perfumery art. The brand is also known for its collaboration with Air France, for which Carven created the uniforms for stewardesses, and in 1966 gave passengers samples of the fresh fragrance Eau Vive.
After the founder's departure in 1993, the brand went through a period of quiet, but did not disappear from the perfumery map. Its true revival began in 2009 with the arrival of creative director Guillaume Henry. In 2013, a strategic decision was made to completely renew the fragrance line. Star perfumers were brought in, including Francis Kurkdjian and Aurélien Guichard. Classics such as Ma Griffe and Vetiver were carefully reformulated, and the bottle design was entrusted to the renowned bureau Thierry de Baschmakoff.
This new chapter was marked by the creation of recognizable collections. The Carven Le Parfum line reinterpreted the brand's heritage, while Dans Ma Bulle offered playful and modern fruity-floral compositions. However, the most ambitious project was the "haute" collection The Collection, launched in 2017. It is a series of travel fragrances from Paris to various cities around the world, such as Paris Izmir or Paris Manille, created by talented authors like Véronique Nyberg and Jérôme Di Marino.
Modern Carven remains true to its philosophy: it is affordable French luxury with impeccable taste. The brand's fragrances are often distinguished by crystalline purity, airy freshness, and optimistic lightness. Among the bestsellers, in addition to the updated classics, those that reflect this carefree spirit are particularly loved. For example, the playful and sunny Dans Ma Bulle or the incredibly popular, quintessentially fresh Carven L'Eau de Toilette, which became a discovery for many connoisseurs.
Fans note that Carven perfumes often have good longevity for their category, leaving a light, unobtrusive trail. They are versatile, suitable for daily wear, and give a feeling of cleanliness and well-groomedness. The brand skillfully works with citrus, green, musky, and woody accords, creating compositions that feel modern even decades later.
Carven is more than just a perfume house. It is part of the cultural code of post-war Paris. Madame Carven's bold step in creating the world's first fragrance focused on vetiver showed that the brand is not afraid to go against the currents. Its history, full of bright events like the "parachute" launch of perfumes, demonstrates rare creative courage. Today, under the guidance of talented perfumers and creative directors, Carven continues to balance between reverence for its rich heritage and creating relevant, fashionable fragrances for a new generation of connoisseurs. It remains a symbol of that very Parisian elegance that never ages.
