Identity and History of Montale Dark Aoud

Immerse yourself in the mysterious world of the East with Montale Dark Aoud, a perfume that has become a true icon in the Montale collection.

Released in 2011, this fragrance instantly won the hearts of connoisseurs thanks to its deep and rich character.

It is part of the famous Around The Aoud series, which is dedicated to exploring the multifaceted nature of oud — one of the most valuable and mysterious components in perfumery.

The history of Montale begins in Paris, where the brand, founded in the early 2000s, has become synonymous with luxury and Eastern aesthetics.

Dark Aoud reflects this philosophy, offering a journey into the dark and sensual sides of oud. If you're looking for a fragrance that tells a story without words, this release is the perfect choice.

Positioning and How to Wear Dark Aoud

Montale Dark Aoud is classified as a unisex fragrance, making it universal for anyone who values boldness and depth.

Its concentration is Eau de Parfum, which provides intensity and longevity, perfect for evening outings or special moments.

The sillage of the fragrance is rated as medium, meaning it leaves a noticeable but not overpowering trail, inviting others into your personal oud world.

This perfume particularly shines in cool seasons — autumn and winter, when its warm woody accords unfold in all their glory.

Dark Aoud is the choice for those who are not afraid to stand out and want to add a note of mystery to their image.

Authorship and Influence of Pierre Montale

Behind the creation of this masterpiece is Pierre Montale, the creative director and founder of the brand.

His approach to perfumery is a blend of Eastern traditions with Parisian sophistication, and Dark Aoud is a prime example of this.

Pierre Montale is known for his passion for oud, and in this fragrance, he reveals its dark, almost mystical side, which has strengthened Montale's reputation as a leader in the world of niche perfumery.

The influence of Dark Aoud on the brand cannot be overstated: it has set the standard for subsequent oud compositions and confirmed that Montale is capable of creating fragrances that are both complex and accessible.

If you want to understand the DNA of the brand, start with this perfume.

Similar Fragrances for Further Exploration

If Dark Aoud has captivated your sense of smell, you might also enjoy other fragrances with a similar character.

For example, Montale Wood & Spices offers a spicier take on woody notes, while Lattafa Perfumes Raghba represents a more affordable alternative with Eastern accents.

For lovers of intense and bold compositions, it's worth paying attention to Nasomatto Duro, which, like Dark Aoud, explores the boundaries of strength and elegance.

Note Pyramid of Montale Dark Aoud

The composition of Montale Dark Aoud is built on two key notes that intertwine, creating a cohesive and profound image. At its core are oud and sandalwood, forming the woody family.

Oud imparts a dark, resinous, and slightly animalic note that immediately captures attention, while sandalwood adds a creamy softness and warmth, smoothing out the sharpness of oud.

Together, they create a harmony that unfolds gradually: from an intense opening to a cozy and lasting base, enveloping you in an aura of mystery and comfort, perfect for those seeking a fragrance with character and depth.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

The wood here is absolutely clean, no extra notes. Just an endless variety of wood shades. And sandalwood, of course. Basically, that's all I pick up, but it doesn't bother me-the scent is so close to me that I don't need to overthink the complexity. Though others say you can really hear the citrus against the wood

A fragrance that immediately catches the eye, woody and bright, at first glance it might seem too harsh and strange. But that's its mystery - true connoisseurs will understand that over time it unfolds, becoming softer and richer. It's not just a scent, it's a whole story that adds a special charm and allure 🌲

The scent is really heavy and long-lasting, you can feel its density. I can't say I like it yet, this direction isn't my taste. It seems like you need to get used to it to appreciate it. But overall, the scent isn't bad 😔

This is a medicine based on Vishnevsky's ointment, well, not to say it's awful, but not delightful either. Such scents, of course, have their charm, but I can't quite figure out the character of this perfume yet. I feel like something is off, but what exactly - I can't grasp

HOW HORRIBLE! I hesitated for a long time whether to buy this perfume. But, honestly, it only starts to be liked after a few hours. Alas, this is a disappointment

This oud is so dry and sharp, it's almost metallic. The warmth and coziness it radiates make me want to sniff it again and again. Mom says it smells like a Christmas tree, and my sister detected something Indian. My husband doesn't even consider it perfume, which, honestly, is surprising. The scent is very intimate, as if it's mine. I have the old version; they say the new one is softer and more feminine. I don't know if I like it or not, but there's definitely something about it

This Montale is the only one that truly impressed me! At first, it just shocked with its powerful scent, but after about nine hours, it opened up with such softness and beauty. The spicy vanilla seems to have been living on the sleeve of my denim jacket for three years now, despite all the washes - it's still there, as if it's grown on me. I won't buy it because I only like this weathered state of it. I wonder where I can find something with a similar vibe?

How coniferous it is! The smell isn't just a spruce forest, but real resin - thick, viscous, brown with green specks. Vanilla here enters into an interesting conflict with this richness. These aren't those cloying scents you find in pastry shops, but something completely different. I wear it like protective armor, like a cloak - always and everywhere. But, honestly, you need to get used to such scents, and not everyone can wear them ))

From start to finish, this scent seems mysterious and complex. It’s dark and rich, but the spices seem to save it from being suffocating, adding an interesting tartness that makes you think. I can't say it suits girls - rather, it's something strictly masculine. Its sillage is moderate, about one and a half meters, which is surprising too 🤔

It's actually very dark. It's oppressive, gloomy, grotesque. It instantly brings to mind a well, a forest, and that feeling of hopelessness that won't leave even on a sunny summer day. This fragrance, with its fatal charm, is only for those who are truly strong of spirit; the rest will just look ridiculous in it

The scent really surprises with its variability, everyone perceives it differently. It can both attract and repel. At the first application, it might seem sharp, but that's quite normal, as happens with many perfumes. This scent isn't at all like the usual ones; it's as if from another world. Sometimes it reminds of a fire, sometimes fresh foliage, sometimes incense - constantly eluding and making one dizzy. It's good at any time of the year, though it unfolds differently

The scent is truly impressive and long-lasting, with a distinct oriental note. It's best to apply it to your hair or wrists so you don't overwhelm your senses. If you overdo it, it can become too intrusive and even tiring. I'd recommend mixing it with other perfumes to create a more interesting and multifaceted bouquet. Tuny Oud is a powerful fragrance that can easily overshadow others if used in equal proportions. Overall, it's an excellent choice at an attractive price with high quality, which is to be expected from Montale
