It might sound strange, but this has nothing to do with perfume psychology. Lutens released 'Tubéreuse Criminelle' in 1999 with perfumer Christopher Sheldrake, and I would call it the brand's most controversial fragrance. Initially, it was part of an exclusive collection, and then in 2011, it joined the main line. This tuberose is a true flower of evil. At first, it's cold and medicinal, but it gradually warms up with spices, though it still remains far from the usual sweet tuberoses.
Its composition includes jasmine, ylang-ylang, and, of course, tuberose, but with green and bitter notes. The fragrance has something plasticky, as if something burned, leaving only scars. But amidst all this chaos, a small flame of the tuberose flower quietly shines, tender and milky. However, even that will eventually disappear, only to be reborn in the next drop of perfume. The duality of the composition, for which I could have loved it, is not so clearly expressed. To me, it seems old-fashioned and too muddled. But, like all Lutens fragrances, it elegantly tells of its contradictions. The fragrance changed several times, and its export version became more friendly - floral and sweet, with fewer medicinal notes than the original 🌸
