Fragrances aged like wine: slow perfumery and Amouage Sequence

Antoine Li is one of the most versatile and influential perfumers of our time, whose name is associated with both high-profile commercial hits and bold avant-garde experiments. Born in Strasbourg, France, he has been fascinated by the world of scents since his youth, which determined his destiny. His path to the heights of perfumery was well thought out: first, a fundamental education in chemistry, then a move to the perfume capital of Grasse and training at the famous Givaudan school under the guidance of master Jean Gishar.
Antoine Lee's career took off rapidly. After working at IFF and joining the Givaudan team, he quickly made a name for himself. By 2002, the perfume world had already taken notice of his exquisite Valentino Gold. The real breakthrough came two years later when he presented two cult fragrances that became style icons: the sensual Armani Code for Giorgio Armani and the mysterious Crystal Noir for Versace. These works proved his outstanding talent in creating successful luxury perfumes for fashion houses, including Burberry, Kenzo, Salvador Dali, and Salvatore Ferragamo. The crowning achievement in this direction was his co-authorship in the creation of the luxurious Tom Ford Cafe Rose.
But Antoine Lie's true passion lay in the field of artistic perfumery. His signature style is the ability to balance on the edge of elegance and provocation. This was most evident in his long collaboration with the rebellious house of Etat Libre d'Orange. For them, he created a whole series of scandalous and ingenious works: the brutal Rien, the ironic Je Suis Un Homme, the touching Divin'Enfant, and the infamous Secretions Magnifiques, which still provokes heated debate in the perfume community.
Another significant chapter in the perfumer's career was his work with Comme des Garçons Parfums. Antoine Lie proved that he could masterfully play with the most unexpected accords. His portfolio includes the gourmand Sticky Cake, the mysterious 8 88, and, of course, the best-selling Wonderwood — the benchmark for modern woody fragrances, later complemented by the fresh variation Wonderwood By The Sea. These creations cemented his reputation as an innovator.
After moving to Takasago in 2011, Antoine Lee not only continues to create perfumes for global brands, but also actively shares his experience. Today, he advises novice perfumers and develops unique aromatic compositions for special projects and spaces. His legacy consists of dozens of fragrances, each telling its own story, from impeccably elegant to deliberately provocative. Antoine Lee remains a true artist whose work continues to inspire and be discussed by connoisseurs around the world.
