Bel Ami Vetiver Hermès arrived in 2013 — and it was immediately clear this one was here to stay. A masculine fragrance from the leather and chypre families. Perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena poured every ounce of mastery into this one. One of the scents from the Bel Ami collection. Offered in eau de toilette concentration.

Description of the composition

The olfactory structure of Bel Ami Vetiver is built as a layered story, where notes flow smoothly and sequentially. The creative approach of Hermès comes through in details that define the fragrance identity. Nothing here feels random, and the fragrance holds its character from opening to trail.

When the structure is mixed the opening appears as one connected movement with a multi-layered petal mood: Ambergris, Basil, Cardamom, Civet, Clove, Elemi and Iris.

The inner phases are read as a smooth transition from opening to trail, which keeps the fragrance coherent.

The accord profile is shaped by these accords: Animalistic, Balsamic, Aromatic and Floral forming a compact and readable structure. Additional accords such as Wood, Powdery, Amber and Leather add depth to the backdrop. The stylistic positioning is masculine, which sharpens how the fragrance is perceived. For persistence High points to a sustained drydown presence.

At the note-group layer the structure relies on Ambery, Aromatic, Spicy and Animals. The palette also extends to Floral, Balsamic, Leather and Gourmet.

Overall Bel Ami Vetiver reads as a cohesive composition — the first stage creates momentum, the central phase adds depth, while the drydown anchors the memory.

Hermes Bel Ami Vetiver is just a collection of woody notes, surrounded by some citruses and leather. No special twist, just boring and heavy. The spices don't save the situation, they just add to the suffocating atmosphere 😒

The fragrance turned out to be less captivating and multifaceted than the classic. It lacks those magnificent floral notes and nuances that bring so much joy. It's colder, with woody accents, but, overall, it's not bad either
