Identity and Release History

Discover the legendary fragrance Caleche by Hermès, released in 1961 and becoming one of the brand's first women's perfumes, embodying the elegance and sophistication of French style.

This release is part of the eponymous collection and available as Eau de Toilette, maintaining its relevance over decades.

Caleche reflects the rich history of Hermès, dating back to 1837 when Thierry Hermès founded a harness workshop, and today the brand is renowned for its impeccable taste in perfumery.

Positioning and Wearability

This Women's fragrance has a moderate sillage that leaves a subtle but memorable trail, ideal for everyday wear.

For optimal effect, we recommend 1 to 2 sprays on the skin and stepping into the cloud for clothing, ensuring a balanced dosage.

The fragrance is suitable for all seasons but especially harmoniously unfolds in spring and summer, thanks to fresh accents, and will be a faithful companion for the office, dates, or special occasions.

Creators and Influence

The creator of this masterpiece was the talented perfumer Guy Robert, whose work helped Hermès establish itself in the world of high perfumery.

Caleche belongs to the Aldehyde and Floral families, emphasizing its classic and timeless character.

The fragrance significantly influenced the brand's reputation, setting standards of elegance, and can be compared to icons such as Amouage Dia Woman, Chanel No. 5, and Amouage Gold Woman, which also symbolize refinement in perfumery.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

This fragrance is definitely for those who appreciate aldehydes and classic compositions. Agreed, dosage really matters here. Caleche reminds me of Madame Rochas, even though it came out later, and also Amouage Gold Woman, which is a whole 22 years older. All these fragrances have something in common, and by the way, they're linked by the same perfumer - Guy Robert. Floral notes, bases, and, most interestingly, waxy aldehydes create this similarity. But, as they say, details matter. Caleche can already be considered unisex, unlike Madame. In Caleche, there are fewer floral accents, more moss and bitterness, and a subtle hint of incense and leather, even though they're not listed in the pyramid. Caleche is a denser and richer fragrance compared to Madame, you can't just throw it on. The sillage is moderate, longevity around 8 hours. It develops best in rainy weather. It's a fragrance for walks, an interesting companion that won't leave you indifferent 🌧️

I tried the vintage version - the aldehydes here are just screaming, and the floral notes are barely audible. This scent is clearly from the past, cold and with a hint of nostalgia. No offense, but scents like these aren't in style anymore

This fragrance is clearly not for everyone. If you don't get what real perfumery is all about, better not even go near it. You won't feel any magic, even if you douse yourself with the whole bottle. Just one drop - and you could discover something amazing, but it seems that's not for you.

Imagine what icy lemons rolled in sugar smell like. This freshness, tartness, and a touch of sweetness - it's not for those used to basic scents. Aldehydes are definitely here too, and they prickle like needles. Jasmine and vetiver - yeah, they're here, but they don't scream for attention, they just exist.

What else to say? The balance between sweetness and coldness - that's good, of course, but not for everyone. If you don't appreciate such things, then better not waste your time. )

Everything here is just wonderful and harmonious, such energy! I don't even know what else to add)) I'm not going to sing odes, am I?)) But why not? It's Hermès after all! The perfume isn't sweet, rather cool, longevity is excellent, the sillage is simply gorgeous. I can't say it's my dream, that I can't live without it, but!.... I already like it, that's for sure! The scent is truly unusual, capricious, and has character. If you have the chance, definitely test it on yourself before buying

The fragrance really grabs attention, it's beautiful, but at the same time it has a European style. Aldehydes clearly dominate here, and that gives it an old-school feel. But despite that, it's not off-putting. Flowers, leather, and citrus are wonderfully combined in it. It feels like the scent of "old money," something aristocratic, like from a family heirloom. A very elegant and French fragrance. I'd gladly add it to my collection

A fragrance that can be described as floral-aldehydic evokes mixed feelings in me. It truly stands out with its luxury and elegance, yet at the same time, it leaves a sense of something unattainable. The initial notes, such as cypress, neroli, and bergamot, along with lemon and orange blossom, create a bright first impression, but quickly disappear, leaving only a slight sadness.

In the heart of the fragrance hide gardenia, jasmine, and ylang-ylang, which seemingly should bring joy, but instead evoke longing. Rose and iris add a bit of depth, but don't save the situation. The base of musk, tree moss, and sandalwood, with notes of cedar and vetiver, seems to try to create comfort, but in reality only intensifies this melancholic mood. In the end, the fragrance leaves behind not only memories of beauty, but also a slight sorrow

This fragrance gives me a mature vibe, it's a bit prickly and tart, but definitely worth checking out. Lots of rose, ylang-ylang, lily of the valley, and aldehydes here. It smells absolutely stunning! 🌸

How amazing it is when in such a multilayered fragrance all notes are clearly audible, and at the same time they create a complex harmony! This is simply stunning and incredibly feminine in the traditional sense. At some moments, there's a feeling as if a church candle is burning nearby, and sometimes, for a moment, the smell of burnt paper appears with a slight hint of rose-ylang powder. There's some similarity with the latest version of Tete-a-tete from NZ!!!

In the 80s, I was absolutely thrilled with Nina Ricci's Farouche. It was simply amazing and left a gorgeous trail. When I first smelled Caleche, it brought back memories of Farouche, and I couldn't resist - I bought it. Although I don't wear it every day, it gives me lovely nostalgic moments of my youth. It's a really cool scent! ))

The smells are too intense, but sometimes, if the mood is right, I might just put it on 🤨

The perfume, sure, looks high-status, but that doesn't mean it's good. Its grandness just overwhelms, and it's only memorable because it's so insistent. I don't get why anyone would wear it )

After several years with Chanel No. 5, I finally decided to change my perfume. I've been looking for and trying different options for a couple of months. A friend who has known me for a long time recommended Caleche. I hadn't encountered Hermes before. This fragrance, by the way, immediately captivated both me and my husband. It's feminine, yes, but, man, it's brighter than Chanel No. 5. As they advise on websites, you need to choose from the same fragrance group. My group is floral aldehydic

I bought this perfume when I was 21. How funny is that! In a luxurious golden bottle, in a velvet pouch. For me, it has always been and remains very sophisticated and chic. I don't understand how I managed to choose it back then, as it requires a certain taste and discernment. You can only wear it for special events, for example, to the opera, where everything is simply magnificent
