Keiko Mecheri Ume: A Fragrance from the Vintage Collection

Released in 2006, Keiko Mecheri Ume is a refined perfume water, part of the Vintage collection.

This women's fragrance, created by Keiko Mecheri, instantly attracts attention with its multifacetedness and elegance, reflecting the cultural dialogue inherent in the brand's DNA.

Founded in 1998 in Los Angeles, the Keiko Mecheri perfume house was born from Keiko and her husband Kamel's passion for art, making Ume not just a fragrance, but a true work of olfactory art.

Positioning and Wearability of the Fragrance

As a women's fragrance, Keiko Mecheri Ume is perfectly suited for modern women who value depth and sophistication.

Its perfume water provides a medium sillage that gently envelops without being intrusive, making it versatile for daily use and special occasions.

The recommended dosage on the skin — "enter the cloud" — allows the fragrance to unfold naturally, highlighting the wearer's individuality.

Thanks to the chypre, floral, and fruity note families, Ume feels wonderful on cool autumn days and spring evenings, adding a touch of romance and coziness.

Authorship and Brand Influence

Keiko Mecheri's work on this fragrance emphasizes her unique approach to perfumery, combining Japanese aesthetic principles with Western traditions.

Ume became a significant release for the brand, strengthening its reputation as a creator of complex, emotional compositions.

Description of the composition

The composition of Keiko Mecheri Ume is a rich blend of notes, where bergamot and mandarin create a fresh start, gradually transitioning into a heart of camellia, osmanthus and peony.

In the base of the fragrance, mahogany, patchouli and oakmoss dominate, adding woody depth, while black pepper and spices provide a spicy twist.

Fruit chords of plum and persimmon intertwine with floral notes of wisteria and peach blossom, creating a harmonious and memorable bouquet.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

Plum, of course, is good, but jam is something else. The scent, yes, you could say it's not bad, but there's no need to be so ecstatic. Plum is definitely in the foreground here, but it's not that simple. It's not just plum, but a whole mess of smells. First the sweetness of jam, then spices, and then suddenly tobacco and rose. It's all mixed up somehow, and not always pleasantly. Overall, I don't know what's so masterful about it

The fragrance, essentially, is a spicy rose with notes of plums and a chypre sharpness. Beautiful, without a doubt. Although chypre fragrances are not my taste, this one is truly worth attention. For those who love fruity chypres, it will be an excellent choice. You wouldn't call it light, it's quite rich, so you can confidently wear it for an evening stroll. Almond is clearly discernible here, there are many plums, and rose completes the composition

Didn't impress me. The scent is somehow flat and unexpressive. At first it seems sharp, then this plum appears, but it doesn't please, rather irritates. Sweetness, spices, and sharpness - all this somehow feels out of place. In my opinion, this is clearly a feminine fragrance, but it's more suitable for older women, because there's some old-fashioned touch in the base 😒

Plum just dominates here, but in reality, it's more like plum compote. Rich, bright red, with the pit, as if you open a three-liter jar and inhale this horror! Uma, of course, bought a full-size bottle without hesitation, but the scent is simply unbearable. It's long-lasting, yes, but wearing it all day is a trial. Autumn and winter are its time, but for warmer months it will be too heavy!!!
