Identity and Release History of Yves Saint Laurent Libre

The fragrance Yves Saint Laurent Libre, released in 2019, is a bold statement in the world of perfumery from the legendary French house Yves Saint Laurent.

This perfume is part of the eponymous Libre collection, embodying freedom and emancipation — key values of the brand founded in 1961 by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé.

Libre belongs to the Fougère and Floral families, reflecting its complex and multifaceted nature, perfectly blending classic and contemporary to create a unique image.

Positioning and Wearability of Libre

The female fragrance Libre is available in Eau de Parfum concentration, which ensures longevity and richness.

Its medium trail is ideal for everyday wear, creating an elegant and refined image that easily adapts to different situations.

For optimal development, we recommend applying 1 to 2 sprays on the skin and 1 to 2 sprays on clothing.

This fragrance performs well in cool seasons — autumn and winter, as well as for special occasions where confidence and style are required, making it a versatile choice for modern women.

If you liked Libre, be sure to try similar fragrances: Carolina Herrera Good Girl, Yves Saint Laurent Manifesto and Calvin Klein Obsessed for Women, which also embody strength and elegance in perfumed form.

Creators and Impact on the Brand

The creation of Libre was worked on by talented perfumers Anne Flipo, Carlos Benaim and Suzanne Dalton, who managed to embody the spirit of freedom through the olfactory composition.

Their collaborative work gave the fragrance a unique character, combining classical and contemporary notes, making it recognizable and desirable among connoisseurs.

Libre strengthens the DNA of the Yves Saint Laurent brand, emphasizing boldness and provocation.

This perfume has become a symbol of emancipation, attracting the attention of connoisseurs worldwide and enhancing the house's position in the luxury perfume market.

Description of the composition

Pyramid and Note Development of Yves Saint Laurent Libre

The Libre composition begins with a bright start, where black currant, lavender, and mandarin create a fresh and fruity chord, instantly attracting attention and setting a dynamic tone.

In the heart of the fragrance, sensual notes of jasmine, lavender, and orange blossom (fleur d'orange) unfold, adding floral tenderness and depth, which smoothly transition to the base chords.

The base completes the composition with warm and long-lasting chords of cedar, ambergris, vanilla, and musk, which leave a mysterious and alluring trail on the skin, making the fragrance durable and memorable.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

The Yves Saint Laurent fragrance truly stands out among other luxury offerings. At first glance, the fougère accord and vanilla might remind you of Mon Guerlain, and jasmine and orange blossom - of Gabrielle Chanel or L’Interdit Givenchy, but that's not the case. Libre possesses a unique freshness and lightness that makes it truly special.

Lavender here is combined with a bright fruity note that resembles cherry in a light vanilla syrup, while blackcurrant with hedione jasmine adds coolness and abstractness. All these notes create that sparkling freshness for which we love Libre. Orange blossom is not too bright - it doesn't overpower, isn't too spicy, and fits perfectly into the overall composition. Musk is also quite restrained - it doesn't evoke associations with familiar “compotes” and serves only to smooth out sharp edges and excessive tartness.

As for vanilla, it's more light and sweetish than spicy. Although even this definition isn't entirely accurate - vanilla creates a calm background that supports fruits and flowers, as well as a fougère-balsamic base. But the real highlight of the fragrance is the woody-amber accord, which gives Libre a “masculine presence.” It reminds of many men's fougères with marine freshness and woody tartness, remaining in the composition until the very end.

Its quantity is perfectly balanced, creating the necessary contrast that emphasizes freshness and balances sweetness. Without this accord, Libre simply wouldn't be so appealing. It's with this accord that those very electric sparks arise, which Libre generously scatters around. It's truly amazing

The fragrance is truly impressive, it's soft, yet has a bright character. Very unusual, not like typical sweet scents. With it, you feel confident and stylish, as if ready for an important event. I'd say it's perfectly suited for the colder seasons, autumn and winter are its time. You don't wear it every day, rather for special occasions or when you want to lift your spirits

The lavender is simply suffocating, it smells too intrusive. Even for me, it's too much. The other notes are floral, light, with vanilla, but I couldn't catch anything more. The intense version seems more suitable to me

Always appropriate, regardless of the season or weather. When I see someone wearing this scent, I feel joy. Its sillage is multifaceted and voluminous, simply a delight!

Libre by Yves Saint Laurent is a true celebration for the soul! 🌟 This fragrance is created for women who bravely go through life and aren't afraid to be themselves. It combines audacity and elegance, showing that independence is beautiful.

In a bottle that looks strict and stylish, something amazing is hidden. The fragrance is filled with the freshness of lavender, which perfectly harmonizes with bright fruity notes and the lightness of orange blossom. It's like a gentle breeze on a hot day! 🍃

Every detail here is thought out, and the play of contrasts is simply mesmerizing. Libre is not just a perfume, it's a feeling of freedom and joy! 🎉

Today on our agenda is Libre by Yves Saint Laurent, which has already acquired several flankers. But I want to talk about the very first and, in my opinion, the most beautiful version - Eau de Parfum. This is not just a fougère, but a truly modern composition where lavender plays an important, but not the only, role.

Perfumers Carlos Benaïm and Anne Flipo created something amazing that balances between masculine and feminine, although, essentially, it's a fragrance for women. Lavender is certainly present here, but let's not forget the sweet fruity accord that adds a sparkling touch and emphasizes the aromatic notes. Orange blossom is the heart of Libre, although many accents are placed on lavender.

Libre Eau de Parfum is a stylish and bold choice that shows that luxury perfumery can be not only beautiful but also interesting. I would advise everyone to try it, regardless of how you feel about lavender or orange blossom. It's really worth doing

Well, finally, I smelled it. One less "want," and so what? I can't call it a lavender or fougère scent. For me, it's just a sweet fragrance for ladies, where vanilla overshadowed all other notes, generously adding its cloying sweetness. I even detect some powder. It reminds me of Brocard's Cosmogonia Sunlight, but only if you dilute it 1 to 6 or even 1 to 10, removing all those tart notes that I actually like. In the end, it lost its sunniness and warm amber quality. It seems Yves Saint Laurent can no longer offer anything to my taste, and that's sad. The scent is undoubtedly feminine and soft; I think it will be bought readily, but for me, it's somehow faceless and age-specific. An ideal gift for a woman over 50, but completely unsuitable for young and free women 😔

I bought a 30ml bottle for work in September. The design is simply gorgeous, and the scent is something else! It's so harmonious and soft, creating a feeling of comfort and tranquility. Of course, some might say it's nothing new, but I really like it. It has its own style, and it's well-made. The notes are especially pleasing: blackcurrant and orange blossom, and the lavender here is just perfect - delicate and unobtrusive. The sillage is simply delightful

Wow! YSL has something new! I'm eagerly waiting to try it. The note pyramid looks intriguing, and the bottle is simply gorgeous. I hope the fragrance doesn't disappoint, otherwise it'll be a shame

Rare trips to perfume stores often make you wonder how similar new luxury fragrances are to each other. That feeling when you try a dozen perfumes in a row, and each of them falls into the same category, is just exhausting. It's like taking a test and constantly getting the same answer: B, B, B. At some point, you start to realize that something's off.

When the same fragrances appear year after year, sometimes with breaks for exhibitions, boredom builds up. I didn't expect anything special from the new Libre by Yves Saint Laurent - after all, flagship launches nowadays mostly differ only in bottle design. The same goes for commercials: instead of cheerful girls with curls and rhinestones, bold images have arrived, but the essence remains the same.

Nevertheless, YSL managed to create something truly interesting - Libre stands out from the rest. It's a fragrance with a clear central motif - orange blossoms. It's easy to break down into its components: there's lavender, vanilla, jasmine, and tangerine peel. Minimal abstraction, it's transparent and bright, like a beautiful bouquet in a flower shop window. This is the kind of fragrance people will ask you about. Be sure to check it out at your nearest RIVE GAUCHE, L'Etoile, or Golden Apple - it noticeably stands out among others and is simply beautiful! TOP-NOTCH

My encounter with Libre didn't start like in novels at all. It wasn't "love at first sight," but it ended with "and they lived happily ever after." Honestly, I'm quite picky and didn't pay attention to the fragrance right away. On a friend, it seemed interesting, but nothing more. I went into L'Etoile and decided to try it on my skin. I couldn't get enough of it for a whole day. I FELL IN LOVE. It's so light, feminine, and multifaceted that I don't want to part with it. Now it's my favorite fragrance. Notes of jasmine, transitioning into delicate musk, and then sweet vanilla - all of this stays on the skin for a long time. I loved it for its longevity and lightness. I'm not ready to replace it with anything else yet

As of today, my absolute favorite perfume is Libre. It has such a scent that I just want to eat it up 😍 I constantly enjoy this smell, so I have a miniature of this magical elixir on my bedside table. Every morning starts with two drops of Libre, and it immediately brightens my mood for the whole day 🌟 Of course, I also bought a full-sized bottle, which sits on the chest of drawers in the hallway, so I don't forget to refresh the sillage before going out. So autumn promises to be filled with my favorite fragrance! 🍂

The fragrance doesn't stand out at all, it has no "self". Something similar has already been seen from Lancôme, Valentino, and Guerlain. But, honestly, it's not as repulsive as some Diors or Chanels. Overall, neutral, nothing special

The notes pyramid made me a little wary, especially the double-lavender. But maybe I was wrong to think that. The fragrance isn't about lavender at all, that's for sure. I can't quite figure out what I'm smelling yet, but it doesn't smell like lavender. Overall, it's quite interesting and multifaceted 😮

I thought maybe it really was unisex. Vanilla definitely stands out, but overall there's something that leans masculine. Lavender also adds sharpness. But, alas, no miracle happened - the scent is still clearly feminine. Yes, it's a bit edgy, but it's more like a stylish boss lady than a brutal man
