The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

This oud is one of the best, appeared before agarwood became trendy. Smells of sweetish wood with an oily undertone, mandarin peel and thick resins. Indispensable in the wardrobe, but the price is insane, M7 already discontinued

The fragrance evokes a sense of calm and sophistication. Woody notes with light citrus accents aren't intrusive, but merely emphasize the main composition. Overall, it reminds me more of a woody scent. The oud here is very subtle, with a barely perceptible bitterness that I really like!!! This aroma leaves behind a slight sadness, as if something important is slipping away

In 2002, Yves Saint Laurent's M7 fragrance appeared. Its creation involved perfumers Alberto Morillas and Jacques Cavallier, as well as Tom Ford, who always liked to segment his audience by gender. M7 became the seventh fragrance for men, but its name is not as important as the fact that it is considered one of the first to use an oud accord. At the time it was released, no one really knew what oud was, and its value was not appreciated.

The fragrance is a sweet-resinous composition with notes of labdanum, vanilla, and vetiver, softened by iris. Initially, it is bright and dynamic, but quickly transitions into a warm amber balm. However, despite all these nuances, I don't believe M7 contains natural oud oil. All the accents are shifted towards vanilla and powder, and cashmeran and vetiver only create the illusion of oud, getting lost in a sweet powdery veil.

M7 is beautiful, but not like Dior Homme. It's understandable and balanced, but sales failed, and the fragrance didn't become popular. Moreover, it caused protests in several countries, including America. How is this possible? This was one of Tom Ford's marketing missteps. Inspired by Yves Saint Laurent's scandalous advertising, Ford decided to use explicit images, but it didn't work.

Many glossy magazines used censored versions, but some published provocative shots. As a result, consumer protests were quite loud. People expressed bewilderment and said they didn't want to wear a fragrance advertised by a «naked man.» Perhaps this is one of the reasons for its failure. And the fragrance itself, although beautiful, did not become a perfumery breakthrough

I thought it was oud, not leather. No burnt wood or dental notes here. The fragrance is both brutal and intelligent, with a solid character. It smells quite smooth, the sillage isn't too bright, there's a slight bitterness from the tar

This is probably one of the most impressive ouds among men's perfumes. It resonates with such depth and attraction that it simply leaves no one indifferent. If it's been discontinued, it's a real loss. Finding a good oud fragrance now is no easy task 😔

Receiving compliments from women isn't just about perfume, that's obvious. Perfume should highlight a man's virtues, not replace them. M7 is truly an excellent fragrance! I'm sure some note, perhaps Oud, affects women in such a way that they really love this perfume!!! In any case, the women who tried this fragrance from my collection were delighted. I don't use fragrances often myself, but I like them

This fragrance remained a mystery to me, no matter how hard I tried to understand it. Yes, it's truly unusual, but not in a way that attracts attention with its sillage. In the cold, there's a dirty smokiness, and in summer - smoldering woody notes. I wore it for a whole year, but never once received a compliment from women. It's a disappointment that lingers 😔

This fragrance is truly one of the most impressive I've ever tried! The opening is simply gorgeous, I can't help but notice, but unfortunately, the base isn't as smooth. It seems a bit flat and unexpressive. In the end, I found a great alternative for myself - Nasomatto Duro. Yes, it's more expensive, but its longevity and power from the first notes to the last are simply captivating

I have a bottle from those very first batches that appeared in the early 2000s… those years are quite distant now, but I remember them. This fragrance, with its bitter roughness, is simply captivating, especially in cold weather. Its sillage is such that it envelops you from head to toe, simply gorgeous. The amber and oud blend beautifully in it, it's truly something! But when the temperature rises, it starts to smell like cherry fudge 😅 Not everyone might like that, and I'm not too fond of such changes 😒 But its longevity is top-notch!
