Released in 2002, the M7 fragrance by Yves Saint Laurent is a bold statement in the world of perfumery.
This men's perfume, part of the M7 collection, reflects the brand's spirit known for its boldness, provocation, and emancipation, making it an iconic release for connoisseurs of exquisite scents.
The M7 fragrance is classified as Oriental and Woody, giving it a warm, sensual, and mysterious character.
It is perfect for autumn and winter evenings, unfolding gently on the skin and leaving a subtle but memorable trail.
Thanks to the combination of ambery, citrus, and woody notes, M7 creates a harmonious composition that emphasizes individuality and attracts attention in close encounters.
M7 is positioned as a Men's fragrance, available in the concentration of Eau de Toilette.
Its sillage is described as Low, making it ideal for business meetings, romantic dates, or evening outings where subtlety and elegance are important.
For those looking for similar fragrances, we recommend checking out Tom Ford Oud Wood, Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely Sheer, and Yves Saint Laurent M7 Oud Absolu Men, which also explore woody and oriental motifs.
The creation of M7 involved legendary perfumers Alberto Morillas, Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud, and Tom Ford.
Their collaborative work led to a fragrance that not only strengthened Yves Saint Laurent's reputation as an innovative brand but also influenced the mainstream use of oud in perfumery, opening new horizons for subsequent releases.
M7 remains a cult fragrance that continues to inspire both newcomers and experienced collectors with its bold and provocative spirit.
The fragrance has low persistence and lasts on the skin for about 2–3 hours, gradually fading and smoothly revealing its main notes
A subtle trail—just a hint of fragrance
The perfume has a fresh scent that is not too intense, so it does not overwhelm those around you with strong essences
A light and elegant fragrance with harmonious richness—the perfect balance between the depth of eau de parfum and the freshness of cologne
Fragrances for spring and summer unfold with light citrus notes, floral and fruity accords, filling the composition with freshness, airiness, and a feeling of carefree lightness on warm days
The composition of M7 begins with invigorating top notes of Bergamot, juicy Mandarin, and spicy Rosemary, creating a fresh and energetic start.
At the heart of the fragrance, deep and rich Oud and Vetiver unfold, adding woody warmth and complexity.
The base consists of sensual Ambergris and soft Musk, which provide a long-lasting and cozy trail, perfectly completing this masterful composition.
This pyramid of notes makes M7 a multifaceted fragrance that gradually unfolds on the skin, leaving behind a subtle and memorable trace.

The fragrance is a sweet-resinous composition with notes of labdanum, vanilla, and vetiver, softened by iris. Initially, it is bright and dynamic, but quickly transitions into a warm amber balm. However, despite all these nuances, I don't believe M7 contains natural oud oil. All the accents are shifted towards vanilla and powder, and cashmeran and vetiver only create the illusion of oud, getting lost in a sweet powdery veil.
M7 is beautiful, but not like Dior Homme. It's understandable and balanced, but sales failed, and the fragrance didn't become popular. Moreover, it caused protests in several countries, including America. How is this possible? This was one of Tom Ford's marketing missteps. Inspired by Yves Saint Laurent's scandalous advertising, Ford decided to use explicit images, but it didn't work.
Many glossy magazines used censored versions, but some published provocative shots. As a result, consumer protests were quite loud. People expressed bewilderment and said they didn't want to wear a fragrance advertised by a «naked man.» Perhaps this is one of the reasons for its failure. And the fragrance itself, although beautiful, did not become a perfumery breakthrough
