Identity and Release History of Vinyle

In 2016, the legendary house Yves Saint Laurent introduced the versatile fragrance Vinyle, part of the exclusive line Le Vestiaire des Parfums Collection de Nuit.

This release continues the brand's traditions, blending boldness and emancipation, and is dedicated to the iconic materials that inspired Yves Saint Laurent—here, vinyl symbolizes night, passion, and modern aesthetics.

Vinyle launched as a perfume water, offering an intense and long-lasting formula that perfectly reflects the daring spirit of the collection.

Its creation came during a period when the brand actively experimented with contrasting styles, making this fragrance desirable for connoisseurs of unique perfume stories.

Character and Style of the Fragrance

Vinyle by Yves Saint Laurent is a captivating journey into a world of contrasts, where cold radiance meets warm sensuality.

The fragrance belongs to the Oriental and Spicy families, giving it depth and mystery.

The composition is based on balsamic, citrus, and gourmand note groups, creating a multifaceted character that shimmers like neon light yet conceals a flame of passion.

As it unfolds on the skin, Vinyle starts with a bold and vibrant chord, gradually transitioning into more restrained and smoky tones, making it ideal for evening outings or special moments.

This fragrance doesn't just smell—it tells a story, embodying Yves Saint Laurent's daring ideas in a modern perfume interpretation.

Positioning and How to Wear It

Vinyle is positioned as a unisex fragrance, suitable for both men and women, reflecting the brand's inclusive approach.

Its medium trail ensures a noticeable but not intrusive presence, perfect for creating a memorable image.

As a perfume water, it offers good longevity, allowing you to enjoy the nuances for several hours.

This fragrance is excellent for cool seasons like fall and winter, as well as for evening events where its contrasting character can fully unfold.

Creators and Inspiration

Behind Vinyle's creation is the talented perfumer Juliette Karagueuzoglou, who masterfully captured the idea of vinyl as a material that hugs the body.

Her work highlights Yves Saint Laurent's DNA—boldness, provocation, and emancipation, making this release a significant contribution to the house's legacy.

If Vinyle has impressed you, you might also enjoy other fragrances: try Yves Saint Laurent Yvresse for playful notes, Henri Bendel Jasmine & Tuberose for floral freshness, or M. Micallef Vanille Orient for Oriental accents. Each offers a unique experience, complementing your perfume wardrobe.

Description of the composition

The note pyramid of Vinyle begins with a bright and sparkling start, where bergamot and pink pepper (red berries) create a vibrant radiance, reminiscent of the cold shine of vinyl.

In the heart of the fragrance, immortelle and myrrh unfold, adding spicy and smoky nuances that gently soften the initial brightness.

The base envelops with a warm and embracing finale featuring anise, resins, and vanilla, creating a sensual and long-lasting trail.

This composition masterfully balances contrasts—from fresh acidity to deep warmth, reflecting the multifaceted image.

The notes of bergamot, myrrh, resins, and vanilla harmoniously intertwine, making each stage of development fascinating and memorable.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

This fragrance is clearly more for women. It's simply stunning with notes of dried herbs, balm, and vanilla. So warm, cozy, and relaxing. A true feeling of peace and harmony 🌸

What an unexpected scent! You immediately feel the bitterness of herbs and resinous notes. It's so intense and bright that it just knocks you off your feet with its sharpness on the first sniff 😲

The smell of herbs. It truly surprises. Dried bitter herbs, as if gathered from fields, create a unique atmosphere. And there's also a light hint of tart resins. It's definitely not for everyone, but if you love something unusual, it's worth a try

Vanilla is clearly in the foreground here, and around it, you can feel tart resins and spices with a slight bitterness. There's also a subtle herbal note that slightly reminds me of apothecary smells. The perfume is long-lasting, perfect for autumn 🍂

The fragrance is quite sharp, with spicy and resinous notes, leaving a smoky and tart trail. There's a slight hint of dried herbs, which gives it a special zest. But, honestly, I think it's more suitable for men - its character is just too peculiar

I ordered a 3.5 ml mini-version to try, but ended up giving it to a friend. I tried it a couple of times in different conditions, but it just didn't work out. I expected to smell pepper, immortelle, and resins, as I like those notes, but alas, I detected nothing but vanilla((( The vanilla turned out unpleasant, synthetic (maybe that's "Vinyl" as per the name??). In the end, Vinyl just became Vanilla for me, and I decided to part ways with it. But I'm not worried, it's in good hands now)))✨

This scent blows the roof off! At first powerful, but there's something sticky and warm, as if resins and herbs intertwine. Vanilla is there, but not bright, complements the herbs. Strange, but beautiful

Vinyl. I don't understand how this scent can be associated with something modern and artificial. It's so resinous, viscous, with magnificent vanilla and herbal notes that remind you of something forgotten. It has its own special charm, albeit strange. As if it's the scent of a kind sorceress who was once nearby, but now only remains in memories )

The fragrance is truly impressive. It's sweet, spicy, and warming, creating a cozy feeling. You can sense something balsamic in it, as well as bitter herbs and vanilla. The longevity of the scent is excellent, and the sillage leaves a pleasant aftertaste

This fragrance reminds me of a sweet balm, but with a slight hint of something warming, as if you're hugging a cozy blanket. There's a lot of sweetness here, but it's not quite a gourmand. It's rich, bright, and multifaceted, truly beautiful, but for personal use, I wouldn't choose it 😊

The fragrance is simply awful and heavy, as if something oppressive is lingering in the air. I can distinctly smell myrrh, and the smoke has a nasty bitterness mixed with sweetness. I can't say it's pleasant, rather the opposite, I want to escape this smell 😒

This fragrance is truly interesting. It's a bit bitter, with bright notes of pink pepper that give it a sharp edge. Myrrh adds depth and a touch of darkness, while an anise background with vanilla creates a cozy feeling. Overall, it's not just a perfume, but something more complex and layered. It doesn't come across as vulgar, rather mysterious, like a dress worn by a diva who's traded her light negligee for something more modern and daring. Perfumer Juliette Karagueuzoglou really knows how to create unique compositions, and this fragrance is a prime example

Myrrh, anise, and immortelle create the sensation of wearing vinyl clothing that gently hugs the skin and plays with neon lights
