Isabelle Duayen: a perfumer poetess from the world of flowers and memories

If perfumery had its poets, Isabelle Doyen would undoubtedly be among the most inspired. This French "nose," the creator of most of Goutal Paris' iconic fragrances, creates compositions that are like personal diaries written in scents. Her story is a journey from the tropical paradise of Tahiti to the heights of the Parisian perfume Olympus, filled with a passion for nature and an endless search for perfect harmony.

From the tropics of Tahiti to the perfume laboratories of ISIPCA

A childhood spent among the lush greenery and blooming gardens of Tahiti forever shaped Isabelle's keen sense of nature. It was these early impressions that became the foundation of her future style, imbued with naturalness. In 1979, she enrolled at the prestigious ISIPCA perfumery school, where her talent was quickly noticed by the legendary Monique Schlinger, who became her mentor. While still a student, Douaen began working as an independent perfumer, and later passed on her knowledge by teaching at her alma mater, which speaks to her deep expertise.

A fateful meeting: the beginning of the Goutal Paris era

A turning point in her career came in 1985 when she met the founder of the house, Annick Goutal. Not only did the two women hit it off creatively, but they also formed a deep friendship. The debut accord of this union was the oriental Sables — warm, like sand at sunset. This marked the beginning of decades of fruitful work, giving the world dozens of fragrances that fans of the brand still adore today.

Iconic fragrances: a poem in scents

It is difficult to overestimate Douain's contribution to the perfume pantheon. Under her leadership, true hits were born that defined the face of Goutal Paris for years. Who doesn't know the delicate Petite Cherie with its peachy youthfulness or the utterly naturalistic Le Chevrefeuille, in which you can hear the whisper of honeysuckle? Her talent ranges from the dreamy Songes and the spicy-green Mandragore to the sensual Ambre Fetiche and the refreshing masterpiece Ninfeo Mio. Other public favorites include the mysterious Nuit Etoilee, the luxurious Rose Splendide, and the intimate Mon Parfum Cheri par Camille. Each work is a story told with impeccable taste.

Heiress and guardian of the legacy

After founding Aromatique Majeur with Gutal in 1993 and the untimely loss of her friend in 1999, Isabelle Douain took responsibility for the brand's future. She headed the company and continued to create under the creative direction of Annick's daughter, Camille Goutal, ensuring the continuity of the house's unique aesthetic. Her dedication helped preserve the spirit of the brand—poetic, feminine, and deeply naturalistic—for new generations of connoisseurs.

Creativity beyond Goutal: from niche hits to new horizons

Duen's talent is not limited to one house. She is the creator of almost the entire line of the intellectual Swiss brand Les Nez. And in 2017, the world heard her bold and modern whisper — Nuit de Bakélite for the Naomi Goodsir brand, which instantly became cult in the niche community. Her portfolio also includes work for such diverse brands as Farfalla, Adidas, Acqua Reale, Bonton, and Carlo Corinto, demonstrating her incredible versatility and demand in the industry.

Voyages Imaginaires: the latest chapter

In 2020, Isabelle and Camille Goutal turned a new page with the launch of their perfume project Voyages Imaginaires. The five debut fragrances, created from organic ingredients, are an ode to travel, both real and those that take place in the depths of the soul. Inspired by the creators' shared travels, this project is a logical continuation of her philosophy, which connects nature, memory, and imagination into a single fragrant thread.

Signature style and community recognition

Isabelle Doyen's style is characterized by an impeccable sense of naturalness, poetry, and attention to detail. She masterfully works with botanical accords, creating fragrances that seem alive and breathing, as if plucked from a branch. In reviews on our website, fans particularly note her ability to "paint" landscapes and evoke vivid emotions, and compositions such as Mandragore Pourpre regularly receive top marks in user ratings. Her legacy is not just a list of perfumes, but a whole world that you want to return to again and again, confirming her status as a living classic of modern perfumery.
