This brand transformed fragrances into poetic works, and one of its brilliant creations is Les Nuits d'Hadrien, released in 2003.

This eau de toilette is positioned as a unisex fragrance, inviting all connoisseurs of exquisite scents on a journey through the nights of Emperor Hadrian.

The name 'Les Nuits d'Hadrien' evokes mystery and luxury, perfectly matching the depth of this composition.

Released during a period when Goutal Paris was solidifying its niche position, this fragrance added a modern twist to the brand's portfolio, showcasing its ability to blend tradition with innovation.

Pyramid and fragrance development

Les Nuits d'Hadrien belongs to the citrus and fougère families, creating a captivating balance of freshness and classic elegance.

Its unisex character makes it a versatile choice for any season, especially spring and summer when the citrus notes bring a refreshing and invigorating feel.

It suits office settings, dates, evening walks, or special events, imparting a sense of style and confidence to the wearer.

While specific dosage guidelines aren't provided, for optimal effect, consider applying 2-3 sprays to skin or clothing, allowing the scent to naturally evolve throughout the day.

Its longevity and trail make it a practical option for extended wear without overwhelming others.

Authors and influence on the brand

Les Nuits d'Hadrien was crafted by the talented perfumers Camille Goutal and Isabelle Doyen.

Camille, daughter of the founder, brought familial tradition and attention to detail, while Isabelle, known for her expertise in complex compositions, added technical precision and innovation.

Their collaboration resulted in a fragrance that blends classic fougère elements with contemporary accents.

This release strengthened Goutal Paris's reputation as a brand that balances tradition with novelty.

Description of the composition

The pyramid of Les Nuits d'Hadrien starts with a refreshing citrus burst: bergamot, green mandarin, lemon, and tangerine create a bright and invigorating opening, complemented by the bitter wormwood (artemisia).

The heart reveals basil, caraway, cypress, juniper berries, and ylang-ylang, adding spicy, woody, and floral nuances.

The base consists of warm and long-lasting notes: amber imparts a resinous depth, patchouli provides an earthy character, vanilla offers sweet softness, and musk adds a skin-like trail, completing the composition with a harmonious and memorable finish.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

At first, normal citrus is felt, without cloyingness. Then spicy herbs and spices come through, there seems to be pine too, but spices are more important. And then bitter-sweet oriental notes that weigh down. The scent is interesting, but the combination disappoints

This cologne with citrus notes and a light floral sweet accent is simply amazing! It smells quite rich and viscous, reminiscent of something from the past, as if made for older people. There's a certain luxury in it that you feel with every drop ✨

A scent that evokes nostalgia, like something gone forever. Citrus notes are here, but not sweet, rather tart and aromatic. Wood and spices add depth, but the spices just overpower, too strong. This combination is refreshing, but there's not as much femininity in it as I'd like 😔

I'm starting my acquaintance with Goutal, and it's really interesting. This fragrance is different from anything I usually choose. It starts with bright citrus notes, which I really like, and then spices appear. They are quite intense, in my opinion. The fragrance is truly impressive

The citrus notes in L'Eau d'Hadrien seem light and sunny, but the cumin added to the composition makes everything too intrusive. Some might catch the spirit of Crete or Cyprus in this fragrance, but I don't feel it. It lacks some depth and sharpness. Goutal seems too watery. This scent reminds me of a cloud of citrus and dry herbs on the warm skin of a loved one. But this barely perceptible physicality prevents the fragrance from being just a fragrance - it becomes something more, like lingerie barely visible under a light dress

The fragrance is truly strange. First, a bright, tart citrus note is felt, and then juniper with herbs and amber appears. Honestly, I don't recall any vanilla. It's definitely unisex. For me, it's a bit bitter. I had to mix it with other perfumes to soften it. It's like something's gone, and you can't get it back!!

I have the eau de toilette. The scent, in my opinion, is unexpressive and flat. It's clearly missing something. On the skin, it smells very weak and delicate, there's something familiar about it. I regret buying it, relying only on others' opinions 😕

Honestly, this scent only causes me bewilderment. Bright, spicy, peppery - yes, but it's more harshness than something pleasant. In winter, it smells so strong you just want to run away, and in summer - no better. It's hard to call it a favorite; rather, it's just an intrusive smell that gives no peace. I see no uniqueness, except when compared to Eau d'Hadrien. Sensuality? No, it's more like an oppressive heaviness that grates on your nerves. I don't recommend it )

The scent reminds me of slightly crushed greens, and for some reason, only parsley comes to mind. The word 'fougère' sounds too strong for this fragrance, but fortunately, it's not intimidating. It's quite lovely. The greens and citruses play very gently and transparently. Overall, I liked the fragrance. Although in the base, it seems more masculine than feminine
