Description of the composition

The composition of Comme des Garsons unfolds as an expressive line of development, where notes flow smoothly and sequentially. The creative approach of Comme des Garçons Parfums is clear in details that define the fragrance identity. No excess details, only what works, and the composition keeps a clear direction. Eau de parfum keeps the depth and body this composition needs.

As soon as the fragrance opens you meet piquant warm first notes: Cardamom, Cinnamon, Clove and Nutmeg.

In the heart you meet Cedar, Coriander, Geranium and Rose holding a opulent floral direction.

The olfactory framework is built around these accords: Balsamic, Gourmet, Floral and Wood without random overlap. Additional accords such as Spicy expand the olfactory volume in the background. The stylistic positioning is unisex, which sharpens how the fragrance is perceived.

From the group perspective the profile is anchored in Spicy, Wood, Floral and Balsamic. The framework further includes Sweet, Aromatic and Gourmet.

In summary Comme des Garsons holds a coherent structure — the first stage creates momentum, the middle layer carries the identity, and the base secures the trail. This is the type of composition best experienced on skin.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. Fragrances with a deep composition include heavy and powerful notes that stay on the skin longer and affect others over long distances.

The Comme des Garçons fragrance, released in 1994, opens up an interesting world of natural ingredients. If you know a bit about essential oils like cedar, cardamom, coriander, cinnamon, and clove, you can easily recognize them in Mark Buxton's creation. The perfumer's woody direction defined the character of many fragrances from this brand. Even now, Eau de Parfum looks unusual and stands out against most offerings from fashion houses. Recalling the mid-nineties with their aquatic and fruity compositions, the debut of Comme des Garçons seemed like a true exotic.

The fragrance cannot be called avant-garde; rather, it is conceptual. If we draw parallels with fashion, we can recall dark fashion, where beauty manifests in asymmetry and roughness. Eau de Parfum is a rare case where natural notes create something beautiful. Warm cinnamon and animalistic coriander, cold cardamom and smoky clove are as if placed in a gray cedar casket that sparkles in the light. This fragrance is as if enclosed in a casket where spices are balanced by the softness of wood.

Through the cedar walls, notes of fresh roses and honey break through, creating an amazing combination. Buxton found the perfect balance: the composition seems completely natural, but there is something in it that makes you wonder about a trick. And there truly is one. Perfect balance is achieved thanks to synthetic components that help create harmony. Woody notes are softened by Iso E Super, and spices are balanced by musk, which gives the fragrance purity and a light radiance.

Despite its multi-layered nature, Eau de Parfum is made in the spirit of Japanese minimalism, as much as possible with such a composition. If I had to describe it by color, it would be ash-gray with golden-brown flecks

Marc Buxton's fragrance for CDG turned out to be a real disappointment for me. I was ready to fall in love with it, but alas, it didn't work out. Too much clove and cinnamon, this spice blend just screams and is confusing. It seems more suited for some rebel than for me. I hope someone else finds something special in it ))
