Identity and History of Shanghai Lily

The fragrance Tom Ford Shanghai Lily, known in Russia as 'Shanghai Lily', was released in 2013 and is a perfume water from the legendary brand Tom Ford.

This fragrance is part of the exclusive collection Private Blend Atelier d’Orient, which reflects the Eastern motifs and luxury inherent in Tom Ford's DNA, where uncompromising luxury and bold sensuality become the main protagonists.

Positioning and How to Wear Shanghai Lily

This women's fragrance belongs to the Floral and Oriental families, creating a perfect balance between tenderness and mystery for bold and confident women.

The scent trail is barely perceptible, which adds intimacy and sophistication, making it suitable for evening events or special occasions.

For optimal application, it is recommended to apply pointwise on the skin, for example, on the wrists and neck, so that the fragrance unfolds naturally, and for clothing, you can use the "enter the cloud" technique, ensuring even distribution and a long-lasting effect.

If you liked Shanghai Lily, you might be interested in similar fragrances: Terry de Gunzburg Rose Infernale, Victoria's Secret Cashmere Vanilla Jasmine and Maison Francis Kurkdjian Cologne Pour Le Soir, which also combine floral and oriental notes to create unique images.

Creators and Influence of Shanghai Lily

Talented perfumers Antoine Maisondieu and Tom Ford worked on the creation of this fragrance, who masterfully embodied the bold sensuality and luxury characteristic of Tom Ford's brand DNA.

Their collaboration led to a fragrance that not only enhances the brand's reputation as a creator of bold and sophisticated compositions but also inspires fans of Eastern aesthetics, confirming Tom Ford's status as an icon in the world of perfumery.

Description of the composition

Composition of Shanghai Lily

The note pyramid of Shanghai Lily is a rich and complex blend where balsamic, citrus, floral, gourmand, spicy, and white floral accords intertwine.

In the composition, one can find benzoin and labdanum, which add warmth and depth, as well as bitter orange for a fresh start.

Spicy notes, such as black pepper, clove, and pink pepper, add sharpness and character, while floral and white floral elements, including rose, jasmine, and tuberose, create a delicate and sensual heart of the fragrance.

The composition is completed by gourmand notes of vanilla and woody vetiver, which ensure longevity and leave behind a mysterious trail, perfectly highlighting the oriental character of this unique perfume.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

What an amazing scent! It's not about lilies at all, as one might think. It's something subtle, in the spirit of Eastern culture, with bright notes of spices and seasonings. I didn't catch any floral accents here. It reminds me more of an exquisite tea blend with a touch of spices. Simply incredible! )

I'll continue sharing my impressions of the seasonal fragrances from the Atelier d'Orient TF collection, especially Plum Japonais. Shanghai Lily, for me, is associated with southern autumn. Here, clove is not just a spice, but an entire flower that, together with incense and spices like saffron, ginger, and frankincense, creates an interesting effect. A hint of anise reminds me of cough syrup, but it doesn't spoil it; on the contrary, it adds warmth and depth to the fragrance. And then, suddenly, I catch narcissus - a double-flowered one, with small blooms. There's not much of it, but it's precisely what gives the composition that lily-like quality. It's like a golden caravan moving along the Silk Road. This fragrance is, perhaps, the most memorable from the entire collection 🌟

From the very beginning, it stinks of clove, and this spice doesn't go away until the very end. The scent, by the way, unfolds into some combination of spices, frankincense, and a barely noticeable lily, although maybe it's not even there - just my imagination running wild because of the name 😤

At first I caught a lily, but then a real chaos of spices began. Clove just screamed against the background of the other notes. Overall, it's wearable, but definitely not for me ))

Turns out there are no lilies in the composition. The scent reminds me more of white flowers, but it's not lilies, it's tuberose, with added spices, vanilla, and woody accents. I expected more, but overall, it's not bad!!!

The scent is just crazy, spices are everywhere, no flowers are felt at all. Clove and pepper hit you immediately, as if someone sharply blew in your face. When it unfolds, a light smoky note appears, but I wasn't into it 😕

Lily is not listed, but it's the main note. I smell lily and clove. Spicy lily! Intense, sweetness in moderation, but many spices. After an hour, my head is splitting.

When I first tried this scent in the store, I just fell in love with it! The lily smell was so pure and harmonious, nothing extra was felt 🌸 But then I decided to test it on my wrist to enjoy it on the go, and, damn, that was a mistake! 😱 The scent unfolded absolutely horribly, becoming harsh and plasticky, simply unbearable! I almost suffocated! And I was going to buy it! Luckily, I avoided the purchase

Hello everyone! I want to share my opinion on a perfume I recently bought. I don't agree with the common belief that fragrances should be strictly gendered. This decant I bought for myself is simply gorgeous! It truly highlights the taste, passion, and charisma of its wearer.

First, you feel bright and juicy notes of raspberry and lychee, which immediately grab attention. Then the heart of the fragrance unfolds with floral accords of Turkish rose and tuberose, creating an incredible sensation. And in the finale, warm woody notes with a gourmand touch resonate: amber, vanilla, patchouli, and vetiver. This combination is simply mesmerizing!!

Overall, the fragrance gives confidence and positivity, and I recommend it to everyone who wants to stand out!

This fragrance really catches attention. You can feel notes of clove and tuberose in it, lightly framed by frankincense and resins. It creates an impression of something sacred, bringing calm and serenity. Very unusual and pleasant! 🌸

Tom Ford's "Shanghai Lily" from Jardin Noir really stands out from other fragrances. First of all, it's worth noting that the approach to creating the floral accord here is completely different. It's warm, with spicy notes, almost smoky thanks to clove. But at the same time, it can be described as delicate and light. The lily's surroundings look much more serious: a woody accord, musk, and dense balsamic notes with a predominance of frankincense. Despite the softness of the flower, the scent feels dry and harsh. And, of course, it doesn't stray from the brand's philosophy, emphasizing restrained sexuality and excessive elegance 😔

Lily, full of languor, and frankincense with bitterness - the first impression is like being at a funeral ceremony. But then the scent begins to unfold, becoming warmer and brighter. The feeling of a temple remains, but now with a joyful atmosphere, like at an Easter celebration. In the finale, woody notes and spices are felt, adding depth )

Not all lilies have a scent, some hardly smell at all. Oriental lilies have a rather sharp, specific spicy-floral scent with a synthetic note, which in large doses can cause discomfort in some people. It is this scent of oriental lilies that is captured in the Shanghai Lily bottle. I tolerate it, but I understand it's not for everyone. Without testing, and not just once, it's better not to buy it. If this scent is familiar and you like it, then perhaps the perfume will be a pleasant discovery for you )

At first, a cherry pit is felt, and then an intoxicating lily. This scent is simply made for hot and humid weather, it's truly captivating. Its beauty is beyond description 😍

I feel that the lily note clearly dominates here. It's very bright and intense. The scent turns out to be floral, but with a certain stickiness that feels a bit overwhelming. Overall, it might even seem appealing, but there's something in its sound that causes discomfort. I don't know how to feel about it or what exactly to say. This is my first experience with this perfume, so I'll keep trying it. By the way, it's freezing outside right now, and I'm curious how it will unfold in the heat. It might be too cloying
