Some people disagree that Grey Vetiver can be considered an iconic Tom Ford fragrance and a living classic. I, for my part, completely agree with this. This vetiver, though dry and aldehydic, sometimes even soapy, possesses incredible elegance. It evokes the pale April sun and is ideal for warm days. Its composition features a classic combination of citruses, spices, vetiver, and cedar. A generous dose of Iso E Super and masculine dry amber give it a modern sound. I love it, although I hardly wear it now 😔

For me, Ford's Vetiver isn't just gray; it's more ash-colored, even with a slight silvery tint, semi-transparent. It starts with bright grapefruit notes that place it among classic colognes. The fragrance is filled with floral accents of orange blossom, which rests on a spicy base. Clove pepper with a tobacco nuance and nutmeg add tartness to the scent, while sage gently leads to the main component. Egyptian vetiver is used here, which smells drier and lighter compared to Haitian vetiver, which has dark, sour notes reminiscent of wet wood. Overall, the perfume appears to be a 'suit' fragrance, but I think elegant casual wear would suit it very well. After all, a fragrance doesn't 'create' a person but merely emphasizes their image, adding completeness and highlighting certain character traits. Orris root and cashmeran soften the dryness of the main accord, making it 'comfortable' to wear. I don't detect amber, although it's listed, and perhaps it is there somewhere, because sometimes, with a deep inhale from the wrist, I catch a sweetish note at the bottom of the fragrance, but maybe that's just my imagination. Despite my openness to gender-neutral fragrances, Grey Vetiver doesn't associate with a feminine image for me. It's a cologne with character that suits a young man, with elegant nuances, despite its overall 'gray' direction
