Identity and Release History

In 2018, the world of perfumery was enriched by a new creation from H&M — the fragrance Raconteuse, which means "storyteller" in French.

This release was part of the The Reveries collection, highlighting the brand's dreamy and narrative character.

Often, when talking about H&M perfumery, many imagine simple, affordable fragrances, but the history of this Swedish fast fashion giant is a fascinating example of how a fashion retailer managed to create full-fledged perfume compositions that combine quality and affordability.

Positioning and Character

H&M Raconteuse is positioned as a women's fragrance in the form of eau de toilette, making it ideal for daily wear.

Its sillage is rated as medium, providing a noticeable but not overwhelming presence.

Thanks to fresh citrus and floral notes at the beginning and warm vanilla in the base, this perfume is perfect for spring and summer days, as well as for romantic evenings, adding lightness and elegance to the image.

Pyramid and Development

The composition of H&M Raconteuse is based on an exquisite combination of notes that smoothly transition from a fresh start to a warm base.

It includes elements from the citrus, floral, white flower, and gourmand groups, belonging to the floral family.

This mix creates a dynamic and memorable impression, ideal for those who appreciate complex fragrances.

Authors and Inspiration

The creation of H&M Raconteuse was worked on by two talented perfumers: Nisrin Grillet and Olivier Pescheux.

Their collaboration brought a balance between innovation and classicism to the fragrance, reflecting H&M's drive for creativity in perfumery.

This release demonstrates how the brand can go beyond fast fashion, offering complex and inspiring compositions that resonate with a modern audience.

Similar Fragrances to Explore

If you liked H&M Raconteuse, it's worth paying attention to other perfumes with similar accents. For example, M. Micallef Vanille Orient offers a rich vanilla base, Courrèges La Fille de L'Air Monoï combines floral and tropical notes, and M. Micallef Art Collection - Black presents a more intense and artistic interpretation.

Description of the composition

The fragrance pyramid of H&M Raconteuse begins with a bright chord of bitter orange (bigaradia), which adds freshness and energy.

In the heart of the fragrance, delicate neroli, exotic tiare, and sensual tuberose unfold, creating a floral harmony.

The base concludes with warm and cozy vanilla, which gives the composition depth and longevity.

This combination of citrus, floral, and gourmand notes makes the fragrance multifaceted and appealing, perfectly suited for lovers of complex perfume stories.

The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. the floral scent is really rich and bright. white flowers, like neroli and tuberose, create a powerful bouquet, and vanilla adds sweetness. but this sweetness sometimes becomes too cloying and suffocating. if you remove tuberose or tiare, maybe it would become much lighter and more pleasant

Beautiful perfume! Delicate flowers with a light touch of tartness. I really liked it, and in the base, there's a cozy vanilla. A great choice for spring, so feminine and charming 🌸

The scent is indeed quite intrusive. Perhaps those who adore tuberose and neroli will like it. If you inhale it for a long time, it brings up associations with grandma's garden and flower beds. There's something interesting about it. But I can't say for sure yet if I like it or not, its persistence is a bit unsettling)

The sweetness of white flowers is present, but this bitterness - completely incomprehensible. Usually I try to give fragrances a chance, sometimes it happens that you don't like it at first, but then suddenly you fall in love. But in this case - NO WAY!

This fragrance is sweet and floral, with a creamy note where bright tuberose plays the main role, and tart dry orange peels add an interesting accent. Overall, it seems appealing, but for me, the tuberose is too overwhelming 🌸

I was thinking about getting this perfume. White flowers at the opening with a hint of citrus bitterness, then unexpectedly they carry you into vanilla sweetness. The concept isn't new, of course, but it's already become somewhat of a classic
