Identity and Release History

Dive into the world of exquisite perfumery with Jo Malone 154 Cologne, a unisex fragrance released in 2001.

This cologne, classified as Cologne, bears the name 154 — a number that refers to the address of the brand's first flagship store on the street in London, symbolizing the beginning of a legendary history.

The legend of English perfumery Jo Malone London is not just a perfume brand, but a whole philosophy that revolutionized the perception of modern perfumery, and 154 Cologne embodies this elegant simplicity.

The creation of this fragrance was worked on by Jo Malone herself, whose creative approach is based on minimalism and the combination of pure notes.

Her intuition and talent have allowed the creation of a composition that remains relevant over the years, reflecting the brand's DNA — freshness, versatility, and British chic.

Positioning and Wearability

154 Cologne is a unisex fragrance, perfectly suited for those who value the freedom of self-expression.

It fits excellently into any wardrobe, whether it's a daily look or a special occasion, thanks to its adaptability.

With a lightly perceptible trail, it leaves a subtle, unobtrusive trace that does not overwhelm others, making it a wonderful choice for the office or intimate gatherings.

As a cologne, it offers light, refreshing longevity — ideal for warm days or when a quick boost of energy is needed.

Spray it on the skin in the morning to enjoy the initial freshness, or on clothing for a longer effect, although specific dosage recommendations may vary depending on individual preferences.

Its families — fougère and woody — give it a classic foundation with a modern twist.

Authors and Influence

The creation of Jo Malone not only strengthened the brand's reputation as a pioneer in the world of niche perfumery, but also showed how a simple idea — honoring origins — can turn into a cult fragrance.

This release emphasizes the Jo Malone philosophy: to create perfumes that are easy to combine and that reflect the owner's personality, without following trends.

If you liked 154 Cologne, pay attention to similar fragrances that also combine freshness and depth: Givenchy Givenchy Pour Homme for classical elegance, Yves Rocher Ambre Noir with warm accents, and Versace Dreamer for a dreamy aura.

Description of the composition

The pyramid of notes in 154 Cologne unfolds as a harmonious journey from freshness to stability.

In the top notes, mandarin dominates, giving a bright, sunny start with a citrus explosion, instantly lifting the mood and creating a sense of purity.

Transitioning to the heart of the composition, lavender adds a soft, calming green chord, balancing between herbal freshness and floral tenderness, which is characteristic of green notes.

In the base, vetiver provides a deep, earthy foundation with woody undertones, giving the fragrance stability and elegant completeness, categorized into woody groups.

Together, these notes create a balanced composition where citrus, green, and woody elements intertwine, offering a multifaceted experience that gently evolves on the skin throughout the day.

Persistence
The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. The depth of a fragrance is the richness and intensity of the fragrance. At first, the fragrance delights with freshness, and then it reveals spicy notes, which is very pleasant! 🌟

My husband and I recently tested this perfume. I applied it to myself, and he decided to spray it on his hand. The scent lasts quite a long time, about five hours, that's for sure. On his skin, the fragrance develops even more interestingly than on mine. Mandarin and lavender are here, but without excessive powderiness, and vetiver adds a certain charm. I wonder how it will sound later 🤔

I would describe this fragrance as "memories of our fathers when they courted our mothers." At first glance, it seems like just a classic, but there's something special about it that attracts. Out of twenty options, I chose this one. It evokes associations with my father and, perhaps, with a bygone era. Although it's more suitable for men, it still became one of my favorites! For everyday use, it might be a bit heavy, but in moments of nostalgia, this very fragrance brings joy!

The vetiver here just screams, and the woody notes create a powerful background. Although you wouldn't guess it from the pyramid, the fragrance truly surprises with its complexity. It's like it dances, changing shades. I really liked it

This cologne is clearly for men; it's fresh with woody accents. Vetiver and citruses are right at the forefront here. It smells quite loud on me, even though it's just an EDC concentration
