Identity and Release History

Released in 1999, the fragrance Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin is a true icon in the world of perfumery, symbolizing freshness and versatility.

This cologne, presented as a unisex fragrance, instantly won the love of connoisseurs thanks to its unique blend of citrus and aromatic notes.

Based on the brand's philosophy, which revolutionized the perception of modern perfumery, this fragrance reflects London chic and simplicity, making it an ideal choice for everyday wear.

Since its appearance, Lime Basil & Mandarin has become the signature scent of Jo Malone London, demonstrating how a minimalist approach can create powerful emotional connections.

Its release in the late 1990s coincided with the rise in popularity of versatile fragrances, and it remains one of the most sought-after in the brand's lineup, attracting both novices and experienced perfume enthusiasts.

Positioning and Wearability

As a unisex fragrance, Lime Basil & Mandarin is suitable for everyone who values freshness and naturalness in perfumery.

Its concentration in the form of eau de cologne provides a light and refreshing sound, perfect for warm days or office settings.

The fragrance trail is rated as medium, meaning it leaves a noticeable but unobtrusive trace, highlighting your presence without overload.

For optimal application, 2 to 3 sprays on the skin are recommended to allow the fragrance to unfold in all its glory, and 1 to 2 sprays on clothing for a longer-lasting effect.

This approach allows you to enjoy the freshness of lime and basil throughout the day, making the fragrance a faithful companion in any situation—from a morning walk to an evening dinner.

If you enjoyed this fragrance, it's worth paying attention to similar options, such as Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Mandarine-Basilic, Sisley Soir de Lune, and Hermès Eau d'Orange Verte, which also explore citrus and herbal motifs.

Creators and Influence

The creator of this iconic fragrance is Jo Malone, whose talent and intuition formed the basis of the entire brand's philosophy.

Her approach to perfumery, based on simplicity and naturalness, found its embodiment in Lime Basil & Mandarin, which became a symbol of modern English style.

This fragrance not only strengthened the reputation of Jo Malone London as a pioneer in unisex perfumery but also inspired numerous subsequent releases to experiment with citrus and aromatic notes.

The influence of Lime Basil & Mandarin on the brand cannot be overstated: it set the tone for many future collections, emphasizing the importance of freshness and versatility.

The persistence of a fragrance is determined by how long it can be felt. It is a characteristic associated with ingredients that evaporate slowly. Persistence depends on the physical properties of the perfume ingredients—mainly their volatility and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Sillage
Imagine a light cloud of fragrance that, like an aeroplane trail, remains in the air after your appearance. This is the sillage - a subtle or vivid imprint left by the most diffuse element of a perfume composition. The sillage can be almost invisible when it is felt only by you and those around you. Or it can be so expressive that its presence is noticed even long after you have left.

Complexity and depth
The complexity of a fragrance is the number and variety of notes that create a unique composition. A complex fragrance contains many different notes that reveal themselves on the skin. This summer fragrance is simply super! It refreshes and delights with its tart, slightly spicy scent with green notes. The coolness and invigorating feeling it provides are impressive. The longevity is also excellent, especially for a cologne. It's nice that it doesn't have those cucumber undertones that I dislike 😌

This scent honestly can't be broken down into notes. I feel such a wholeness in it that I can't even imagine what it's made of. It's like it embodies freshness and purity. As if I took something from my partner's hygiene products, but it's not just something cheap, it's something special 🌟

This scent is simply WOW! It's truly refreshing and energizing. You can feel a bright sour lime in it, as well as a bit of bitter herbs and basil. Although it's not entirely my taste, I can't help but note its excellent longevity and natural, expensive sound

Jo Malone is a real find! This cologne just explodes with its bright and tart citrus scent. The British vibe gives it a special coolness. But alas, the longevity is a letdown-just like many other fragrances from this brand, it quickly disappears

I liked it, though that's not surprising, it's definitely my kind of scent. The smell is fresh, it smells expensive, and everyone around likes it. You can wear it every day, and it's simply impossible to get tired of it

This fragrance reminds me of bleach, but with a hint of men's soapy products. It seems like a classic, but with some irritating undertone. Its monotony doesn't let go. I don't smell mandarins here, but there's something green and a bit of vetiver. Clearly masculine, but not overly musky! The sillage is gorgeous, longevity is on point )

Lime, basil, and thyme clearly stand out here, creating a feeling of freshness, but the scent is too natural and not sweet. It's no longer just a perfume, but rather a memory of summer that brings nostalgia 🌿 Unisex, and suitable for men too. I bought 9ml miniatures, was curious to try, but now I feel like it's not quite what I wanted 😔

The citrus accent just explodes, adding a bit of tartness, which is a pleasant surprise. When mixed with woody sage, the fragrance becomes more delicate. Although it might resemble something masculine, I'm sure it will suit women perfectly too

I don't agree that Lime Basil & Mandarin is only for men, as someone wrote here. It's more unisex, but it definitely suits women more. Although, of course, men are all different 😒

This fragrance doesn't bring any thoughts of tea to mind. Rather, it reminds me of a summer field, full of bright and fresh notes that merge into one sound. The longevity, alas, leaves much to be desired. But, despite that, its lightness and freshness bring more positive emotions

The fragrance is really fresh and bright, like a summer day. It resembles a juicy cocktail you want to drink. This is definitely a scent for warm weather. You can combine it with other Jo Malone perfumes, but the longevity leaves much to be desired - it lacks durability

A fragrance that's hard to understand right away. It's light and fresh, like a morning breeze. At first you feel bright lime, and then tart herbs appear, adding mystery. It's unisex, but not intrusive, rather elegant. Definitely summery. However, longevity and sillage leave much to be desired. Overall, I don't know if I like it or not ))

This smell, to be honest, only causes bewilderment. At first, you feel lime, but it's somehow too sharp and heavy, as if it's pressing on your brain 🍋 Dry zest and ripe peel - that's not what you want to smell. Then basil appears, but even that doesn't save the situation. It seems tasty, but too artificial, unnatural 🌿 I don't smell thyme at all, only this intrusive basil with lime. And yes, it lasts a long time, but that doesn't make it any easier 😒

The "Lemon Basil and Mandarin" fragrance resembles refreshing citrus water with notes of vetiver and patchouli at its base. Although the base smells quite "masculine," it might not suit all women. This perfume is versatile; it can be worn at any time of year. It unfolds differently in summer and winter, surprising with new facets each time. It's truly a chameleon fragrance: it can be a great helper in business, aiding concentration during work and meetings. And it's also perfect for a relaxing morning drive on a summer day, when after a shower with wet hair, you get behind the wheel to grab some coffee or tea and enjoy the sea view, feeling the scent of summer and freshness 🌊

The scent that once brought joy now seems too light and fleeting. Refreshing, yes, but somewhere its depth is lost. Citrus notes, not too sweet, blend with greens and spices, but the feeling of coolness fades. Summery, versatile, but something is missing to make it memorable. As if something important slipped away, and now only a slight sadness remains )
